Default Do you still need to get your BB Pin unlocked from a network?

My girlfriend has a Torch 9800 on the Three network in the UK. She has gone home to Kenya for a couple of months and has tried to use a Safaricom Sim card in the phone which is unlocked.
The phone works fine for calls and texts etc but she cannot use the BB service. The Safaricom people told her this was because it was locked to the 3 network, but when I rang 3 they said they don't do this.
Can anyone shed any light on this and suggest ways round the problem?
Thanks.

hmm sounds like the Safaricom SIM is not setup correctly for BIS.

If her Phone was locked the phone would have given a problem as soon as it booted up & noticed a non 3 SIM.

When she goes to BB ID what does it say?
Does it say unable to connect to BB Identification Service?
If so, I would say definitly the Safaricom's sim card is not provisioned properly, & the issue is with them & their SIM & not her phone

Yes it sounds like they don't have the correct data plan.

Thanks for the replies guys. So as long as the phone is unlocked, there should be no problem changing to a different network in another country? Do carriers no longer lock BB Pins to their own networks? Cheers.
