Thank you Kevin, this is terrific. But with all due respect, some of your moderators also need to be reigned in. A couple of them seem awful troll-like themselves. Again, I say this with respect, but it is something that needs to be dealt with as well.

Usefulness is totally subjective and a lot of these out-of-control discussions are the result of people trolling each other. Trolling is provoking an argument and the best way to avoid being trolled is to not to respond to a troll. If you respond to a troll post you have done just as much damage as they have.

Also, just because you hate what someone says doesn't make it a troll post. Lots of people here are overly sensitive.

Yes, it gets tiresome hearing the same dissenting opinions over and OVER AND OOVVEERR again, but that doesn't invalidate them and it certainly doesn't make that person a troll by default.

I don't think this is a bad thing at all, but I think the sweeping ways in which the term "troll" is applied here makes it potentially dangerous. It's as if 2,000 toddlers heard their first curse word and can't help but repeat it over and over again, out loud...

Giving an opinion that someone doesn't like and possibly in a tone they personally don't agree with does not equate to trolling. Being pro Android on a Blackberry forum doesn't make someone a troll by default.

Baiting other posters into flamewars is what trolling is.

Calling someone a troll just cause they posted something you don't like aren't agree with is trolling, BTW... (Most people who are called names WILL get offended and become defensive because of it).

When people learn the distinction, and perhaps grow a bit thicker skin, they will stop allowing themselves to get trolled and those who do troll will move on because they will not be getting the attention they're striving for.

JMO.

But I guess these people wantn threads where all the replies amount to something comparable to "I agree!" Cool stuff XD

Thank you for the definition of troll...I believe my first post on this site, I referred to myself as a troll, being a newb and thinking a troll was just someone who browsed the site without posting...ooops.

I hope readers will take this post not in censorship but in community, something this world sorely lacks these days. It's perfectly okay to have a negative opinion of something, but please express it appropriately and constructively, because I like this site, and I would like to continue having a pleasant feeling about visiting it.
