Ok, just saw that it does work for 5.x.

Now the question is do I bother when I only have 6 contacts.........

I guess why not as I have the space......

I just downloaded and restarted phone...
I am not seeing any differences between 5.x and 6.x. Anyone seeing anything making it worth the update?

(I am running this off my 8530)

RIM is really starting to **** me off.
Promising software updates with little to no differences at all.
Constantly changing release dates on phones
Just not keeping up with what consumers want in a smartphone these days.

    ETC.

    According to BlackBerryos.com

Video: BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 on it's way with many new features!

With the flurry of new videos that have released today with Mobile World Congress 2011, it just wouldn't be complete without a BB Messenger news update from RIM. As announced recently by RIM, BlackBerry Messenger will have a mobile gifting platform in which users will be able to integrate with BlackBerry App World and carrier billing systems to allow BlackBerry subscribers to instantly gift airtime, apps and other carrier services from one subscriber to another using BBM. Not much of a cosmetic change going on, but some other new features discussed in the video will be:

More freedom and ability to send files of larger sizes and video to BBM contacts.
BBM chat within 3rd party applications with the ability to interact with other users in games, media, ect.

Developer Tools are suppose to be released by RIM sometime by March, and BlackBerry users will see the new BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 roll out sometime around May of this year.

I see no improvements/features in 6.0. waste of time to install, IMO.

"I do not think it means what you think it means. "

This does not mean that BBM can talk cross-platform with other IM apps. IIUIC, it means an app can be integrated with BBM so that two people with BBM and the same app can converse within the app. Right?

Dude, lighten up a little. You asked what was new, Canucksoldier graciously provided an answer. No need to get irate just because there's no new UI that picks your naval lint for you.

It now has integration with some third party apps like ScoreMobile and Poynt. Not sure how useful this will be for me though as I only have 4 BBM contacts left. I am down to two co-workers, my brother in-law, and my wife. Everyone else has gone Android or iPhone.

Been running the beta for some time now. The one thing I noticed is that group chats load very quick, and doesn't lag the whole phone when people join or leave group.
