Amazon Mentions BlackBerry @ Amazon Kindle Event
- I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been disapointed with Amazon's support of BlackBerry. When the PB first came out they said that Kindle would be on the PB. Then the Product launched & still no Kindle. Then PB 2.0 arrived, still no kindle; though we were able to convert the .apk to a .bar & sideload the player
I have been very disapointed with Amazon as a result of their lack of BB support. (though I still use them) So when I saw this slide from them it kinda pissed me off. Either support BlackBerry or stop claiming to support BlackBerry!.......I would prefer that they support BlackBerry.
:End Rantpantlesspenguin and gravymonster like this.09-06-12 01:03 PMLike 2 - They do have the Amazon mp3 app, but it doesn't do the cloud sync like the ios and android versions. As for movies and kindle, I use my 7" galaxy tab for all of that and can't really imagine watching a full movie on my 9930.09-06-12 01:06 PMLike 0
- Sith_ApprenticeMod Team EmeritusOk well you should probably realize they are talking about the handheld devices named BlackBerry not the BlackBerry Playbook. There is, in fact, a Kindle app for BlackBerry devices.
Kindle for BlackBerry: Read eBooks on Your BlackBerryNo Kindle Required
Is the link if you are interested. I would wager they dont support the 8700c, 7290, 7100, etc etc etc either. Does that mean they shouldnt say they support BlackBerry? Come on now, relax and think things through. They botched the Kindle app on the Playbook, but they still support the handhelds.09-06-12 01:07 PMLike 6 -
ETA: I actually use Amazon MP3 as my primary music source. If I can't find a way to transfer them to my sd card from the cloud, that actually might be a deal breaker which would hold me off of BB10 for a bit :S.09-06-12 01:09 PMLike 0 - Sith_ApprenticeMod Team EmeritusAlso, someone with a bar, should, if its working properly, send it to Amazon and ask them to submit it to app world. If it works it works, and explain that it is the repackaging of the android version and no changes to code were made.pantlesspenguin and 00stryder like this.09-06-12 01:21 PMLike 2
- ok I will give you Amazon mp3..........even though it was at a Kindle event that Amazon mentioned BB
BUT kindle...no. It only supports a limited number of BBOS devices & they don't even sell the program on BB App World. You have to go to Amazon.com to get it. The only reason this program exists is because amazon USE to support BB & the old program still exists. It's not being updated or anythingLast edited by bbpandy; 09-06-12 at 02:06 PM.

They still advertise the application, and they still offer it for download. That is support. Keep in mind BBOS will be dying, and rapidly over the next 12-24 months. It makes zero sense to go through anything with BBOS for a North American centric company. They may or may not be making an app for BB10, if they are it could very well be HTML5 based cross platform (which would make the most sense). Playbook is also a VERY small market compared to the other platforms, including BBOS. BB10 should offer a much larger target audience (and screens to read on)09-06-12 01:28 PMLike 0 - diegoneiRetired Mod & Ambassador
Either they submit it to AppWorld, or the find a way to block the service. Heh...
What email should we point the blasters at?09-06-12 01:29 PMLike 0 - I read the entire Hunger Games series on my MyTouch 4G though, and that only had a 3.8in screen. I still read books on my phone screens, and would gladly do so on my BB10 phone.

All personal preference - I could probably read a book on my 9930 but don't since I prefer my tab. I also use amazon for my sole music source.09-06-12 01:31 PMLike 0 - Sith_ApprenticeMod Team Emeritus
I would think the adage "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" would apply here. Sending the bar with a helpful E-mail and suggestion might result in a much better result than spamming.pantlesspenguin and drjay868 like this.09-06-12 01:31 PMLike 2 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModWhat is your issue with the "old" app? It works. You find a book, download said book and read it. What needs to be updated?
As far as where to get it, is this really important? It's not like it is unavailable or one has to jump through hoops to get it.pantlesspenguin likes this.09-06-12 01:32 PMLike 1 - ThunderbuckRetired ModeratorI don't know about the rest of you, but I have been disapointed with Amazon's support of BlackBerry. I think there is a very good possibility that we'll see BB10 support for Kindle; the trouble with the Playbook at this point is that it hasn't sold enough to present a compelling market (that whole chicken-and-egg thing). And with Amazon launching their own tablet, supporting the Playbook likely ran counter to their own interests anyway.
BB10 will likely move in 3 months what it's taken the Playbook a year and a half to sell, and Amazon can't ignore that as easily.09-06-12 01:34 PMLike 0 - Amazon is doing a great job with their Kindle Fire HD. RIM needs Amazon more than Amazon needs RIM. To this day, I think RIM and Amazon complement each other so well, what RIM is doing with Balance and BES10 for Enterprise, Amazon is doing for consumers with FreeTime, Android apps and their media consumption ecosystem. Unfortunately for RIM, looks like Amazon is doing it all on it's own though...09-06-12 01:44 PMLike 0

- The point is that RIM will have to sell PB 4G at very low prices (perhaps cheaper than manufacturing costs) to be competitive. The next RIM tablet (if there will be another one) won't be released before summer 2013 and until then, the PB 4G hardware won't be competitive at all. The will have to "give it away"...09-06-12 02:08 PMLike 0
- Amazon is loosing $$$ on selling the device & making it up by selling their services. For example, 4G with a $49.99 PER YEAR data plan! (restricted to 250MB a month)09-06-12 02:10 PMLike 0

Amazon started off by selling content, books, dvd's, and lots of other merchandise. They have now made a way for the consumer to access thier products. RIM is in the wireless device business and has no great content to offer. The PB is a wonderfull machine, the problem is we have to rely on outside providers of content. As someone who buys a lot of things from Amazon I am going to give the 4g Fire a hard look.
As far as RIM partnering with Amazon I think there are license issues outside of the USA, with a lot of Amazons content.09-06-12 02:34 PMLike 0 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModThe point is that RIM will have to sell PB 4G at very low prices (perhaps cheaper than manufacturing costs) to be competitive. - If you were Amazon, would you support a mediocre device from from a competitor which struggles for life itself? No PB/PB 4G user base - no app support. RIM doesn't have a large tablet user base and probably won't ever get because Apple, Google and Amazon are strong competitors - perhaps too strong.
