After just reading Chris Umiastowski 's CB article regarding Citigroup giving a sell rating on BlackBerry, I can't help but think the Z30 may be the last device to be produced by BlackBerry, as we know them.

Despite what Mr. Chen has stated in his open letters can it be too much of a stretch to think that support for all BB10 devices will end after 10.2.1 thus making the Z30 the last of a short and sweet era?

What would be the point of Mr Chen telling us they are going to support their os and devices if that was not the case? It would only damage their credibility even more so.

To get rid of inventory? To not send the stock crashing even further?

You can use Lo Apotheker as an example.

June 1 2011: “We want to create a holistic ecoystem around webOS,” Apotheker said. “We’re putting it on phones, on our TouchPad tablet which will debut as scheduled this summer. And we’ll put webOS on PCs….It will go on every PC that we’ll ship.”

August 18, 2011 HP cancels Webos.

CEOs say whatever they have to and are allowed to get away with under law.

Sadly, I would point to the assurance [from the past CEO] of support for the PlayBook until it was determined that BlackBerry couldn't justify the resources on the PB project any longer. I believe they may have to revisit a similar decision going forward.

What would be the point for BBRY officials telling you BB10 was coming to the Playbook? That the Q10 was expected to sell tens of millions? That BB10 phones were selling extremely well? That 90 percent of top 600 iOS and Android apps would be available at launch? Etc, etc.

It's not like they meant to mislead you, right?

Leo Apotheker should not be mentioned anywhere near BlackBerry now, that name is like a curse lol

Really hope that there are at least more devices coming for us consumers in the next year. Would really hate it if development stopped after 10.2.1.
Is it me, or does BlackBerry have some kind of problem with the branch that includes the version "2.1" of any kind?
    Think of the PlayBook too

No way BlackBerry is going to stop producing phones, unless another company takes over. The only one who can change my thinking is probably Mr. Chen, actually, stating that they will not produce smartphones.

My friend knows a friend from BlackBerry in Waterloo, and the Z50 is already a reality, but not sure when/if it will be released. There's a high probability as I heard that BlackBerry has contracts with the manufacturers/suppliers and it would cost to cancel them.

Sorry, I just don't think the Z30 is the last device from BlackBerry.

The latest article on crackberry says that shutting down the handset business would just be too expensive.

The devices might only be sold through BlackBerry directly, they might have zero carrier promoting, but I'll still buy them. As much as I'd have loved to see BlackBerry marketed better so more people could enjoy them, I'm totally happy with my Q10 and Z10, and that's what's important.

Wow, that's supposed to be good news!? If I read it right, they're saying that the only chance BlackBerry might have for long-term survival would be to unload its cash-bleeding handset division, but the cost of doing that would be prohibitive. Therefore, they have no choice but to keep making phones that nobody buys until the losses from doing so run the company into the ground.
