So I have been writing a few of the app developers that develop apps I use on my iPhone. The three I have wrote so far do not plan on introducing any of their apps on the new BB10 system. I usually write them a letter saying that I plan to get BB10 when it is released and am wondering if they have plans to support. I have no plans to divulge who these companies are, as I don't want to create any negativity toward them.

One of the weather app developers (who makes an awesome weather app) said they have Windows, Android, and iOS covered but there are no plans on releasing a BB10 version because they can't be paid where they are (Russia). They would likely release it in BB10 if they could get paid.

Another developer (a large company that released an app) said they are aware of BB10 and are keeping their eye on it. They are probably judging feedback to see if it will be worthwhile to develop for it.

My questions to all the BB developer specialists:

1) is it really that hard to port an iOS, Android, or Windoze phone app to the new BB10?
2) Is there really a limitation as to where payment for apps can be issued? Seems like RIM should investigate how the overseas (maybe it is only Russia?) developers get paid so as to further expand their ecosystem.

I also spoke to a developer and he was under the impression that it's difficult to develop for BlackBerry and therefore is taking a "wait and see" approach. He was actually very intrigued to hear that they are making it easier to develop for BB10. I wish RIM would spread the word more to developers about how easy it is.

The developer relations team at RIM, lead by the one and only Alec, is second to none in the industry right now. If a developer makes even the smallest move to find out more about BB10, then they will be more than happily surprised by the difference with existing ecosystems available.

What surprises me more, is that these professionals in the development arena have not already made some kind of move to find out more about BB10... Either way, Alec and his team are easy to find on Twitter and via multiple other means, developers can't miss them or fault their enthusiasm.

That's what bb jam is for developers are just to narrow minded to pay attention to other developers.

It and a few other POS applications keep him busy and he is happy doing it and living the rest of his life away from a screen. Not everyone will be porting to every platform, some just have no belief or care for any other platform. IE my friend has not ambition to port to iOS or Android.
On the point of not hearing about BB10 or how easy it is to port, at least in north america, you would have to be living under a rock to not know BB10 is coming out and I would hope that even the least ambitious person check out competing/related products concerning their livelyhood. Between BB Jams and the development team being out there the information is there if one is looking.

This is what I'm concerned too. In my city, I know there are many android devs stays and lives here. Some of them are friends of mine. I do try to ask them, encourage them to port their apps to BB10.

Giving them information that bb apps market is more profitable than Android, even IOS itself (3-4 of my friend live at different city right now are counting on their selling apps from bb apps, and it's works).

But what they almost said when I told so, they see no future at bb apps or bb OS itself, even they know bb10 is coming.

I know that this situation can be changed and can be fixed. But it will take time and more effort. I just hope RIM wants to hold a small bb jam at my hometown as they do in some of cities around Indonesia.

Contact Alec Saunders on twitter, start a BB development group in your home town. You'll get some attention! BBjam I dont know but they will help.

I highly doubt there are many app developers that aren't familiar with the evolution of BB10 development. You can have the best tools and resources ever provided, but there's one hurdle that can only be addressed with time. Consumer acceptance and adoption.

I'm sure there are numerous developers who are interested, but are simply waiting to see what happens with BB10 before they commit. It's not a simple matter of just "porting" your app to the BB10 platform. There's also time and resource allocation for support, continued development, testing, hardware, etc.. After all, porting an app isn't a "set it and forget it" process (at least, not with developers of any quality).

When developers feel the effort is worth the investment, they'll come.

See bolded statement. This is highly debatable. Have you ever developed for multiple platforms? If you have, I don't think you can honestly tell me that RIM's tools can even hold a candle to Microsoft's visual studio or Apple's Xcode.

I wasn't saying that they do or did have the best tools. It was a hypothetical "Even under the best of conditions" statement.
