I never gave the BlackBerry phones by Porsche design a second thought until recently seeing pictures in this forum. I am now considering purchasing the P'9983 when it actually arrives. My question is has anyone here even considered buying one but then backed out because it seemed kind of self-indulgent /borderline crazy to spend $2000+ on a smartphone? I know it's relative if you make millions a year. But still...haha. That's a lot of money for something a cellular network would subsidize on an upgrade.

I also think I want a phone that no one else has. Haha. Except rich tycoons whom I never hang out with. Hahaa

It's all relative.... what does $2000 mean to you. If it's a months wage, yeah it's crazy. If you make that in a few hours, why ever question it?

Unfortunately the P'9983 isn't like a real Porsche where you are getting something more over buying say a Ford Mustang... other than your device will stand out. But then any QWERTY device stands out these days.

Considering no phone can do what a desktop can do completely and I wouldn't even pay that much for a desktop no way in hell...
Besides that right there is mortgage payment territory.

Then again going by vertu there is a market so if they could make one and sell it I say go for it.
if you can swing it I say go for it. It does have 64 gb of memory on top of the SD slot so why not.have to agree the design is beautifully crafted.

I hear the P'9981 had some issues with hardware and reboots. But with BlackBerry 10 running I'm guessing they will make a more solid device? also yes I'm strictly thinking of it as a status symbol. I'm single so I guess a new pair of Bruno magli shoes and a Porsche design phone can't hurt? haha

It's really the shape of the phone I like a lot. I have seen dozens and dozens of blackberries over the years. This one really stands out to me.

No! $2000 is not an easily dispose income for me. I do not own a business that allow me to write off either. To socialize with people who perceive this phone as fashion accessories, one has to own more than just a $2000 phone. The clothing, the car, the lifestyle, the golf course, country clubs, five star restaurants, hotels, charity events. It's just odd to own a piece of accessories sipping coffee at the Starbucks where people are not even going to give you a second glance. Unless they are tech geeks.

I have considered it. However the only thing for me is if I drop it and it breaks, then what do you do? Keep getting replacement parts worth more than the phone. I prefer just buying out the standard phone for 700 and if something happens to it, I can get another one. $2000 for one phone can get me say three passports.

Not at all, especially when most of that $2000 is chrome bits stuck to a Q10/Z10. I'd rather get one of those and pocket the change instead of announcing to the world "Look at me, I'm a massive tool".

Will you buy a phone if it suits your needs and have some substantial to offer - Yes. If it's more or less like any other phone but more expensive no.

I don't know..it's just hard for me to imagine dropping that kind of money on a phone. Once you buy it, it probably immediately loses value because you open it, and it would possibly be hard to resale.

Why not? Unlocked phone with good storage is over 1000$ anyway, so 2000$ is not that much

Sure. And if you look at resale value of the 'P-series phones, they tend to maintain their value.

I totally agree. Unlocked phones are already expensive. Plus my company pays for my cellular bill. I'm just buying the phone.

If you have the cash and you don't have anything more important to spend it on I don't see why not. Everyone's got to treat themselves to something nice every once in a while, and if for you that's an expensive phone why not. I know how you fell, it's a frivolous and expensive purchase and you want to justify it in some way... the only real justification you need is do you want it and can you actually afford it.

I like the design language of the Porsche Design models, and when you compare them to what you can spend on a Vertu they're a veritable steal.

I'd love a P'9983, sure, but I'll also say I'm not in an income bracket where I could afford one easily either.

I never heard of Vertu tilll today. But seeing how gaudy those $20,000+ nokia phones look the p'998x series looks like a masterpiece. And a good value comparatively speaking of course.
