It got Kevin's vote and many others, and not because it was "BlackBerry" style.

I think most of the reason Kevin liked it was because it was similar to using a BlackBerry. He also went through about 100 yet it still had lots of buzz. Maybe the buzz really wasn't warranted

They won't be shown in 1080. The highest rez they can be shown in and still be 16:9 is 864x1440.

Like any dual-purpose device, it will involve some compromise.

If BB was smart, they'd include options to run apps pillar-boxed (for portrait) or letter-boxed (for landscape), rather than being forced into full-screen on the 1:1 screen. At least the size and resolution of the Passport's screen would allow that.

Will that happen? We'll have to see.
This is also what im hoping for.

    Don't you mean 1440x864?

Here's hoping we get per-app compatibility mode perferences, so that one can, for each case, find the best user experience, oneself.

If the app is well behaved and reflows dynamically (...and well), to any screen -size, -ratio, and -PPI; Great - give it the whole square.

If it is "hardcoded"; Tell it the screen is infact one of the aspect ratios and resolutions it supports (choosing from a list), and display it letter-/pillarboxed accordingly, either only centered, or scaled to fit its largest dimension to the actual screen (...which scaling of course having the inherent downside that is softens the image).

How to behave during rotation? A couple of presets should cover most cases -- things like: "Rotation lock", variations of: "Keep Phone in Portrait/Landcape and App in Portrait/Landscape/Adaptive", maybe with options to: "Rotate on tap in black bar area", and: "Show android naviagtion buttons in black bar"...

(Some apps have parts of their interface designed specifically for portrait (e.g. listviews) and others for landscape, and expects you to flip the device around whilst using them -- it would be nice to have the passport's wrapper adjust as you go, so that you get the full use of them, minus the annoying bit. :9)

This is the trade off when buying a qwerty... you either understand the limitations or buy a full touch device.

It's Blackberry's trade off. Not a smart one.
