My BB 8900 is set up for WiFi preferred and I have noticed that sometimes it finds a WiFi connection when I'm not in a designated hot spot. My question is if I start a phone call in WiFi and the signal is lost and it switches back to Edge does the phone call end at that time. If so is it best to only use WiFi in designated hotspots and turn WiFi on when you are in one.

As I remember it if you start a call on wifi then move out of wifi range (doesn't matter if it's a designated Hotspot or an unlocked wifi signal you happen upon) it switches to regular cell signal. If you have Hotspot at home even though it switches to regular cell signal it acts as though it's still on wifi in that it doesn't take from your monthly bank of minutes.
If the signal is lost it goes back to regular cell usage.
