If I'm not in a Wi-Fi area, I turn it off. Personal preference and it will save a bit of battery.

I'm not always in range of WIFI coverage but mine is on all the time.
Off saves some battery but it isn't a big problem for me so i tend to keep it on all the time.

My wifi and my bluetooth are always on... Don't noticed the difference in battery drain, but I will notice the hassle of turning my wifi or my bluetooth on.

I use the free app wifi manager. with it, you can leave wifi on, and you can add your frequent hotspots. when in range, your wifi will automatically connect. when out of range, your wifi will automatically shut off.

I also only turn it on, when I have got a WiFi connection.
Otherwise it's pointless and you lose a lot of batterylife, because your WiFi keeps tracking for WiFi networks.
