    Default Whydo apps require BIS?

Why do so many applications require you to have a BIS plan, even if they can be run through wi-fi? Is this RIM's way of forcing as many people as possible to get a plan?

They assume (correctly), that you need a BB Data Plan anyways. What's the problem?

Even when running via wifi your still using BIS. Check your phones manage connections screen.

I use wi-fi and don't have a plan, ergo you are incorrect.

My personal phone (Bold 9780) has no data. When I first tried using FB, BBM, Twitter, etc, none of them would even open. They all told me I needed BIS for them to work. Then I upgraded the OS to the newest release of OS 6. Then I got notifications to upgrade each of the applications (FB, Twitter, etc), and they all work over Wi-Fi now except BBM. BBM now opens but I can't add any contacts or message anyone.. Shazam is another one that works over wi-fi as well. Another one that still doesn't work over wi-fi is google maps. I used it to use on my Nokia E71 over wi-fi all the time, but nada on my Bold.

I definitely share your frustration, but as new releases of these applications come out, I believe we will see them decouple from BIS and allow wi-fi only connections.

Uh uh, yet, you are one creating a thread moaning about how you can't do this or that while on WiFi without a plan.
