Not only were they extremely well designed and built, but the Z10 and Q10 have something that no other post-BBOS BlackBerry phone has: user-replaceable batteries.

I think many people underestimate the usefulness of this feature. Batteries degrade over time. Being able to easily replace batteries can extend a phone's useful life.

For those of us who intend to use a BB10 phone until BlackBerry finally declares the platform dead, a Z10 or Q10 still has tremendous value.

Any other thoughts on why the Z10 and Q10 have such staying power among BB10 users? I think the Z10 is still the most used BB10 phone by a huge margin.

They key is, the designed the Q and Z very well, as the beginning of a new era and the beginning of BB10.
After 3 years my Q10 looks like new. The removeable battery is one of the greatest features!

    I fully agree with OP.

I decided long time ago that I am not going to spend any money on a sealed-in battery phone, so I am sticking with my Q10 and Z10. They are still being used everyday.

Another advantage of having a removable battery:

BlackBerry was able to control the whole process from design, manufacturing, OS, and updates (carrier intervention not withstanding). That control allowed them to keep early BB10 phones optimized. Our user experience is far better than when BB10 launched.

Fact is the migration of Legacy of BBOS users didn't go as planned. It is my opinion that BlackBerry leadership wanted any BB10 device to feel like a viable upgrade, therefore prolonging support on 3 year old devices. That, and BlackBerry devices have a reputation for holding up well over time.

I showed a long time BlackBerry user at my gym last night my Q10. He has been on the BlackBerry Bold for years now. He took one look and said the keyboard felt amazing.

BlackBerry did an outstanding job on the Z and Q series phones. Then they started listening to all the critics and naysayers and basically trying to make newer models more mutated than the last.

Pick up a BlackBerry Classic and compare with the Q10. The classic feels ridiculously heavy and large in the hand. On top of that my q10 battery life is way better than my classic. Not sure if the battery is already deficient in the classic. But it doesn't matter anyway- I can't replace it!

BlackBerry put years of planning and thought into the Q10 and Z10 because they felt it was their last shot. Now I feel it's a company who has lost its original vision and credo. The Q10 feels more like my BlackBerry OS 7 device more than any current BlackBerry 10 device. And the z10 is an excellent phone in itself.

That original launch was amazing. Wish they stuck with these two phones longer with better hardware upgrades. They got it right the first time.

I liked my z10 and my father is still getting use of it. The hardware is very robust and the lightweight os allows older devices to keep on trucking through the years without slowing to a crawl. I don't think the removable battery adds all that much utility. You can still swap out a z30 battery when it degrades, just not in seconds.

Exactly. If you've used a screwdriver before, you can get the job done in 5 minutes, or at worst, 10. 10 minutes every 2 years isn't really asking a lot.

yeah its like they changed batteries from time to time loool.. I know some of u. But BlackBerry q10 bat is so good that u will still have juice left after a long typical day.. And majority of the users changes devices after two to three years. and thats why powerbanks exist...I love my q10 because it gives me 2 letters in just one click.. and it lags sometimes.. but I find it cool gives me time to rest loool

These are micro screws that can get stripped very easily if you are not careful. Also, anytime you have to mess with the flex cable and the mainboard, you run the risk of breaking the phone. Again, it is great that you can do it, but it is hard for many people.

The advantage of the Q10 and the Z10 is not only about battery replacement. The OEM replacement battery for the Z10 and the Q10 are readily available from reputable sellers such as Crackberry. For a Z30, or a Passport, you have to rely on shady Ebay sellers to get a 3rd party non OEM battery that might or might not work. Even the Ebay sellers that say it is the OEM battery, there is no way of actually verifying it is OEM. Whereas if you get a Q10/Z10 battery from Bestbuy or Crackberry, you know you can trust it.

If you take it to a shop for a battery change, there is no way of knowing if the shop used a proper OEM battery or a ****ty Ebay battery, if the battery would be sealed in inside. And many shops do indeed use non-OEM batteries to save costs. This is not just a battery quality issue, but a safety issue.

I, for one, have been screwed over by 3rd party batteries on my past Nokia phone which had a sealed in battery.

Not everyone experienced the double typing and it has been resolved through many by updates.

The fact that the Z10 battery is user-replaceable renders the battery life issue moot for me.

It comes down to personal experience and preference. Don't like the Z10 or Q10? Don't get one. Get what you want and be happy. And it's ok to let others be happy if they choose differently from you.

I, for one, am quite happy with the Z10 and Q10 and pleased they're still around.

Someone mentioned the battery life. My God is it good. Got home last night and the device was still at 40-50%. Iphone was less than 30 and I barely used it all day whereas the Q10 was used for multiple calls messages etc. It's a truly remarkable device.

If you are happy with your devices.... that's great. Coming on a forum to promote almost three year old phones that didn't sell all that well to begin with and that have now been EOL. You're just opening the door for people to tell you how wrong they think you are.

I have a Z10. My personal experience is that the battery is not good. I rotated three batteries and would regularly use two a day. My present phone rarely gets below 50 % at the end of tjeday. I still use the Z10 on WiFi at home. As far as the Q10 if you did not have the double type then you have an excellent phone. My Z10 is not as fast as my current phone but it is tolerable. Maybe not in a year or two.

I came on a BlackBerry fan forum to talk about why I enjoy a couple BlackBerry phones. The only door I opened was to a conversation about why I and many others still like those phones. If haters want to barge in and try to make themselves at home, there's not much I can do about that.
