    Ok, small rant time.... So I was trying to upgrade my wife's phone from a old razr to that new pink/sandstone Pearl 8110 yesterday, and called the AT&T cellular service line. Get on the phone with the rep, and he starts asking me question after question about whether or not I use AT&T for my home phone service. I tell him no, and then he starts going on about how I could get some real savings by switching over now. I tell him, look, can we get off of this subject?...I'm trying to buy a phone from you guys. He's like, oh, well, it's my job to ask you these questions. ARRRRgggghhhh!!!!! Why won't they just let me buy the friggen phone?!!!

    I finally did get the phone for my wife, and she's really excited about finally getting a Berry too, but the whole experience in getting the phone really puts a bad taste in my mouth. AT&T, stop trying to sell me other stuff, when I'm trying to give you more business!!!!!

    Well, it's the guys job to pitch you all that, and if you call any company they're going to try to sell you more stuff, say you call and you actually need home phone service, all of a sudden they just got you to buy 2 products instead of 1...so before you rip on a company (or anything/anybody really) look at it from their POV

    I know what you mean. If the rep wants or needs to interest you in other products or options WHILE fulfilling your order, that's fine. I don't mind listening to different options, but I want the reason I called for taken care of first.

    Working as an AT&T rep (not for cell phones) I can honestly say that we get GRILLED if we don't try to upsell any customer while giving them the product they called for. Its a pain in the rear to try to sell someone something and filling out an order while having someone behind you chanting "sell.. Sell... SEll... SELl... SELL!!!!! SELL!!!!" lol So please take pitty on us sales reps and customer service reps... we are only doing our job

    Working as an AT&T rep (not for cell phones) I can honestly say that we get GRILLED if we don't try to upsell any customer while giving them the product they called for. Its a pain in the rear to try to sell someone something and filling out an order while having someone behind you chanting "sell.. Sell... SEll... SELl... SELL!!!!! SELL!!!!" lol So please take pitty on us sales reps and customer service reps... we are only doing our job
    I can understand that, and that's fair, but why not try to sell me the home phone service AFTER they've fulfilled my request to purchase the BlackBerry first? I called for that specific reason. I felt as if he was ignoring my request the whole time, and that in order to get what I wanted, I had to work under his agenda first. That is annoying.

    You're right and he should have put the customer service portion before the sales portion of your conversation. Some of our reps are idiots and don't know how to do their jobs... Sorry about that!

    Exactly. I love my job don't get me wrong I get to talk to some VERY interesting people (the woman on the phone right now is swearing up a storm right now LOL)

    Sales sucks...lucky for me when i was in sales, it wasnt the only function of my job role, so i totally made myself indispensible in all the other facets and got to keep my job

    ATT for me has its pros n cons! unless you know someone who works there and can get you the hook ups like me its mostly awesome but when there not there... theres no point in me going

    i feel trying to talkin to someone not such as a crackberry addict as us is no help lol

    Thats my dream job. I'm doing strictly sales now with very little customer service. I would love a job that entails sales but also lets me do more than that. Thats why I loved retail. I interacted with the customers in a totaly different way then I do now...

It would be nice if they took care of you before trying to stear you into buying more. Makes you think they don't appreciate what you do give them!

    Well the customer service rep might appreciate it because you just helped them meet their sales quota or get that much closer to it. The company doesn't care unless you're the last customer on earth and they have to have you in order to survive. At least thats what I have gotten since I started here....

    Its these very same reasons that my wife quit here career in banking. Customer service was tossed out the window in favor of customer harassment to gain sales...

    Well when I had att I never had a prob with the reps...I mean we all know they gotta earn a buck just like the rest of us. My only prob with att was the ever growing bill.

    when i worked for HP they constantly pushed us to do sales ontop of supporting the customers technical issues..i hated it...now i work for RIM and all i do is support the BlackBerry and sales are not an issue for me
