Why is their so much hostility between Blackberry and IOS? On forums and news sites, etc it always comes down to one side going at the other. Why?

Yeah, I get that but it's rare to see say an android user attempting to bash Blackberry over the head with their life savings. Usually IOS. Is it the type of people attracted to these products are like this?

Why the hostility?
It's users of all smartphones, don't kid yourself. It's a small, very vocal minority.

Actually, many are probably over-secure in their choices.
The real psychology answer is that these cognitive biases are traits of social psych. inherent in the species. People become overly obsessed with rather trivial issues, then form imagined group biases based on them....the most extreme of these become unable to even imagine why others wouldn't want to make the same choice as them. They will then defend it with any reasoning necessary - even if irrational or contradictory - to justify it. They feel on some deep level as though people using other phones must be fundamentally different....must defend own tribe!!!!
You can read all about these phenomenon in social psych, and of course evolutionary psych would indeed say that it is the primitive tribe mentality which leads to this. The CB crowd....or any fanboy crowd are the same people who would have leaped out to stone a stranger, or to justify the wiping out of another tribe who wears a different type of animal fur.... and indeed....it probably was useful in a certain time and place :-)
Nobody is immune, though hopefully we dont' take it too extremes. We do this with just about all aspects of life.....important (politics, religion, philosophy, etc) and trivial (phones, clothes, hair).....and of course, on fan forums, you'll find the most extreme people. Fortunately, I think they are the minority!
The exception to all this being people who like Audi; they are, across the board, effeminate eurotrash wannabees- without exception. - 03-08-2013, 02:23 AM #17
The hostility only exists on Crackberry, the other sites are spared from it.

There are trolls on all forums. But the extra hostility you seem to see here is largely self-created.
Some are always quick to point out hostility or perceived trolling by others without considering their own words or actions. It always takes two to tango. - 03-08-2013, 11:57 AM #22
