....No one calls the SG4 a Phablet. So why the Z30?

    Size:

    SG4: 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9
    Z30: 140.7 x 72 x 9.4

    weight:

    SG4: 130g
    Z10: 170g

Screen: (Wouldn't this be the defacto comparison of phablet vs not a phablet)

    SG4: 5" AMOLDED, 1080 x 1920 (441ppi)
    Z10: 5" super AMOLDED, 1280 x 720 (295ppi)

    Battery:

    SG4: 2600mAh
    Z10: 2880mAh

Z10 is a hair larger dimensionally, but ultimately has the same screen size as the SG4. Its heavier (30 gr), with a larger battery, but that doesn't make it anymore a Phablet than an SG4.

If I was cross shopping the Z30, I would not cross shop it with a Note, I would be comparing it directly to an SG4......color me confused

With this said, the Z30 stacks up well against the SG4. Slightly larger and heavier, but it has what sounds to be (no pun intended) a great speaker system, and a larger battery. Outside of the screen resolution (which I'm curious to compare...don't think my middle aged eyes will tell the difference), its one heck of a device.

Originally, devices with a screen larger than 5" have been labeled as "phablets". I am not sure if the Z30 really meets this category, however I also never called this thing a phablet.

    Everyone? hehehe not true =)
Maybe they just want to because of the reason @Taigatrommel mentioned , personally I do not think the SG4 nor the Z30 are phablets, they are just really nice bigger cell phones

I think it's just because the Z30/Aristo was leaked so early that back when the leaks showed a 5" screen, the "larger" phones then were still in the 4.3"-4.8" range. Plus many BBOS users hadn't used a larger screened phone, so a 5" screen to them was a huge difference. So in their minds, something with that big of a screen was a "phablet." But now several months later, 5" screens are fairly common.

Maybe because of the weight? 170g is heavy........ a couple of grams heavier than a note 3 and that packs a monster 3300mAH battery.

Midway between most large(ish) screen phones and most small screen tablets. Seems simple enough to me.

the first ever modern day phablet of recent years was the samsung galaxy tab.

It was exactly, if you take "feelings" into account, taking a PlayBook and use it as a phone. All via a tablet OS. That was true of Tab 2 / Tab + (the second generation of galaxy tab). Hence the phablet term "phone in a tablet".

I think Oversized phone is what it is, but 7"screen for a phone is ridiculous. Even the Samsung Galaxy Mega is bordering ridiculous. That's a phablet I don't want. I'll love 7" tablets, small it may be, but it'll still be much more awesome than 10" tablets, (personal taste).

But I think if its not a samsung galaxy mega sized, or 7" screen like PlayBook, it ain't a tablet yet.

    no it's not......

closer in weight only. size wise, it's only a couple cm larger than the SG4, screen is identical to SG4.

Phablet...it's the expression representing the form factor from smartphones at 3.5" to tablets (10" and 7"). It's the perfect phone+tablet! Ergonomic enought for making a call yet large enough to view movies and play games.

    Go BB!

correct....and this screen is 5". Not 5.01"....its 5", therefore it is not "larger" than 5"

Someone tell all the tech publications to stop calling this phone a phablet. Its not a phablet.....we're fibbing our selves if we think this phone is a phablet ...for phuck sakes!

Thank you. Plus unlike Samsung BlackBerry did a horrible job wen it comes "size " efficiency. A phone that size can easily have a 5.2-3" screen. Or make it smaller keeping the 5" display.

anyone got a comparison pic of z30 and s4? when it comes to phone a little bigger makes a big difference, even if the screen size is the same.

Say what you will but I consider any phone with a 5" or over screen size to be a phablet. So Z30, Galaxy S4, LG G2, are phablets. Moto X, HTC One, are smartphones. Just because a company adopts a phablet as their flagship phone doesn't make it not a phablet.
