I'm surprised BlackBerry missed the opportunity to advertise during the Super Bowl. I was waiting for a surprise Priv commercial and it never came. The company still has about $2.3 billion in cash and a 30 second spot would have cost about $5-7 million (less than 1% of their cash holdings). The only valid reason would be the spots filled up and they couldn't get in.

BlackBerry was in there. It was the black sheep among all the white ones, that didn't know the song.

There was a BlackBerry, looked like a Curve, in the puppy bowl lol.

I don't know if it was BlackBerry advertising though.

The superbowl is not a good spenditure of advertising dollars.

Yes, it reaches a giant audience. But keep in mind it will be primarily north America, which BlackBerry is particular is doing bad in.

Secondly, there is more of a move toward online content, TV viewership is dropping fast.

All superbowl commercials are scrutinized heavily and you better have a damn good ad.

Overall, it's cheaper and more effective to run multiple commercials in prime time, and dedicate a team for online presence.

But you see, BlackBerry doesn't market. At least not effectively.

How did that even get made? I'm not into marketing but I can't really imagine them at the drawing board and some guy says "Let's make a commercial about what BB10 CAN'T do!" and then his boss says "Great idea - give this man a raise!"

They don't advertise any other time but you'd expect them to advertise in the most expensive 30 second spot of the year?

Yea, I do, since the audience is huge and they can afford it.

That would involve Chen making a prudent decision. He's much better at making poor decisions.

LOL, seriously? You don't remember that BlackBerry already did this? Of course you forgot, as it was a forgettable ad. So why would they do that same stupid mistake again?

    - The previous 2013 Superbowl commercial was a complete waste of money.
    - It wasn't effective. Do you remember it?
    - It did nothing to raise brand awareness.
    - The money would have been better spent on traditional advertising.

Just like the game itself, hype surrounding it is incredible just so they can charge the outrageous advertising rates they do.

The only 'valid reason' not to run an ad is because it's a waste of money, they already proved this.

Because they only have 2.5 billion in the bank and that might have got you a 10 second run. Super bowl adds are insanely expensive.

A 30 second spot was going for about $5 million (Super Bowl ad costs soar ? but so does buzz), so $2.5 billion is plenty. I mentioned that in my original post.

Whatever cash BlackBerry has is certainly not a war chest to get back into the smartphone race. That has already been conceded.

I was just kidding, a little humor that's all, I really would like to see some advertising for the Priv in the T Mobile stores I have been too. So far they have nothing and the Priv is mixed in with last years devices.
