why is boot up time so horrid?
sometimes rebooting can take up to 10 minutes, i've tried out 3 os's in total for my 9700.

wow. I've never had a 10 minute boot time, not even for my old BB pearl. My 9930 is pretty speedy but it's slower than the iphone 4's 40 second-ish boot time. Patience is a virtue.

its probably because of the phone's specs and os?
same here my 9900 boot up in less than a minute - 08-18-2012, 08:20 AM #4
BlackBerry will never Boot as fast as other devices
BlackBerry's perform a security audit before each boot, which takes time, and then the old Pre OS7 BlackBerry's were very underpowered for all we are throwing at them,oops...

I have had issues with some OS where boot time dramatically decreased if you uncheck media card encription. Worth a shot? If not, at least update your OS to the latest available.

I've never had a 10 minute reboot time, not even on my 8130 or 8330.

10 minutes...SERIOUSLY, I've never experienced this, however I am aware that BlackBerry devices take a little longer than most due to SECURITY. The slight inconvenience is worth it in my opinion. I would suggest deleting all apps and a wipe of the OS and start from scratch,

Yeah it's not a very big issue for me either. How often do you reboot? I only reboot if I install an app that tells me to or if the OS is acting slow or freezes.
Honestly, I reboot so seldomly that it's not a big deal, as once the OS is up and running, it's nice and fast.

10 mins is way too long. OS5 and 6 could take 3-4 mins, 7 shouldnt take more than 2.

My old 9630 took 8 minutes to boot up. I timed it one day while on hold with Verizon customer service. I told him that I had already done a pull, but he wanted to me to do it again. I timed it for fun. 8:02. I was shocked. That was a long awkward silent period while it booted up.

speaking of boot times, nothing beats an old Series 40 Nokia boot time.....5-7 seconds lol.

Hi,
I haven't timed it yet but felt 2-3 minutes on my Bold 9780 on OS6
Feels good to me.

I think The more apps you have loaded on the phone the longer it will take to boot up.
A customers 8520 that had like 2mb remaining for app storage took 9 mins to reboot. After we ended up deleting some of the apps slowing down her phone it rebooted in 4 mins.
My 9900 with a few apps loads up in 1min 22secs.Watch Hulu and Netflix on the Playbook

Yep. Hardware hardware hardware coupled with the security.
Even the os7 phones are not speedy on startups once you load apps. But they are much better than anything before. Interestingly I just upgraded my wife's 9930 to the new Verizon 580 release and it appears on her device it did shave some boot time.

My Bold 9930 takes 45 seconds (been timed) to boot up on average (anywhere from 40 to 60 seconds) which is a huge improvement over my older BlackBerry smartphones. My Bold beat out my Droid Razr in boot up time
. But my grandpa has a Curve 9330 and that takes 3 mins. Your 9700 still runs OS 5. So did my Tour 9630 and that took forever too boot up...up to 10 mins as you said. So it just improves with the OS
