Hi- I love my blackberry but really dislike the touch screen and don't care about apps. A there still retro models available where I can just basically do texting and emailing?

    Thanks.

a 9780 might be a decent choice for you. It had an upgraded 5mp camera up from the 9700's but even if you get something faster like a 9900 you have the choice to use the trackpad and not the touchscreen if you choose.

Sure, but it is ancient, and BIS is being phased out by carriers, so it is soon to be a relic, along with all BBOS phones. BB10 phones will soldier on a bit longer, though.

    Who has phased out BIS?

Go for a 9900! Mine still functions like a boss... Or the Classic... YES BOTH DO have touch screens, BUT you never have to touch the screen to get it to work, especially with the 9900... With the Classic, depending on what app you are using you may on very rare occasion have touch the screen, but I use a Classic as my daily driver and I next to never touch my screen... Trackpad and toobelt via Classic is as 'modern retro' as they come... Touch screen included, but not necessary...

I'm suprised because BB's are still popular there I thought. I'm trying to find out if any shut down BIS in Canada and I have never heard of it happening so far

In the US, T-Mobile has been phasing out BIS and support for BBOS. They're also refarming some of the frequencies to LTE. AT&T has announced that they'll be ending BIS support in 2017.

And a number of european carriers have phased it out already, with more planning to.
