    Hello friends!

    Not that long ago WhatsApp has announced to offer end-to-end encryption with an "unknown" key.
    They claim that it's encryption is that good that even they ain't able to read the messages.

    But here is a "turn-around":
    Last friday an amok attack happened in Munich, Germany.
    The attacker texted a friend via WhatsApp right before it happened.
    After that the messages were deleted.

    The police took the phones an were able to bring the back texts, although they were deleted and they were able to decrypt the texts.

    So this means either WhatsApp is lying or the police.
    Or there is a backdoor.

    How about BBM protect?
    If it's not that hard to decrypt end-to-end encryption, how will BBM protect secure company data?

    Is encryption designed to prevent reading of the messages if you have the devices in your possession? I think most people are more concerned about messages being intercepted by a third party. The devices would have to contain the decryption keys, right?

    Without doing my homework I would guess that the messages are stored in plain text on the device. End-to-end means encrypted between the devices, not on the devices.

    Homework assignment: export a chat history to your computer and check whether it opens in Notepad or Word.

    They could 'restore' the messages because they had the phone.....nothing to see here move along.

    No whatsapp vs. BBM discussion again please.....
