If my only concern is battery power should I use Wi-fi or not?

Of course if I have wi-fi tuned on, but I am not connected it will use of un needed battery, but what about regular surfing? At home I only pay for the 1.5 MB/s DSL from my local telco and my 3G with BIS seems fairly comparable with what I get on wi-fi.

Wi-Fi, because it has a lower power requirement. Plus, you are interacting with a source meters away instead of miles away.

If you are connected to WiFi it will save your battery. If however, you have WiFi turned on with no connection to a WiFi network then you may end up using more battery as the device is constantly looking for a connection. There are some good apps that automatically turn on and off your WiFi in certain locations. I use one to automatically turn on WiFi when I'm at home, when I leave home it turns it off.

Agreed. Wifi use is good for conserving the battery!

I took a look (albeit quick) and couldn't find any Geo fencing apps - that's not to say they don't exist for bb10. I used to use on on a galaxy s4 but, honestly, I just leave wifi on all the time. The battery life on my Q10 has done well, for me.
