What Should I Do?
Hey People...
Unfortunately, one of the copper pins/contacts has broken off from my SIM card slot. This essentially has rendered my almost 3yr old 9700 useless. I’ve called some repair shops, and they are not 100% sure they can replace the slot. From what I understand, the SIM tray is soldered onto the board….
What should I do if I can’t get this fixed?
I’m definitely interested in BB10, and I am eligible for an upgrade, but the 9700 is my only phone. In the end, there is no way I can go until Feb/Mar without a phone…
The 9900 and S3 appear to be worthy replacements, but damn, BB10 looks intriguing… - 12-09-2012, 07:01 PM #2
Try to locate a used phone on Craigslist. That way you can save your upgrade. Having a backup BlackBerry is a good investment, or you can sell it when you get your BB10 phone.

get a base model curve running os7 for cheap and that will still be an upgrade over the 9700 and then keep your contract date for bb10 when it drops.

Used is usually the easiest route, just verify with the carrier before you pull the wallet out that the phone is clean for transfer.

Re: What Should I Do?
I agree with the consensus of this discussion. It would be far less of a headache to get a used phone than it would be to try and fix your problem. I've had decent luck with Craigslist myself, but at least in my area, not many are selling BBs. eBay may be your best bet for finding a cheap secondhand-set...hope I helped!
