John Chen has actually impressed me so far. Unlike Heins, he has shown he can haul a** and get stuff done (FAST). He completed the Foxxcon deal in 45 days as CEO and judging by how he wants to sell the next budget BB in the same country it is made in, I think it is a good first step.

How cheap do you guys think this new BlackBerry will be? Unlike before, I think Chen realizes that $450 is not a budget phone. Seeing how it is made by Foxxcon, I will say $250 unlocked. What do you guys think?

I read somewhere that Foxconn was initialized already by Heins and co.

Nevertheless, "jakarta" should be in the price range of Moto G IMO.

(117 GBP) or even below 100.
It's low end, this should be reflected in the price to sell millions.

It'll compete well alongside models like the Nokia lumia 5xx

How much are the BBOS devices that are selling well in Indonesia or the hot selling Androids? This is likely the price they are shooting for.

I agree it should rival prices of Moto G to really compete and with a kick *** keyboard.
Implementation of trade in your old legacy for a BB10 experience program. This will drive up sales. I believe even Apple did this for its iPhone 4 models (hate to compare but correct me if I'm wrong)
Eventually Q5 prices will need a drastic price cut next year for it to sell very well in Europe, Africa and Latin America.
    My 2 cents!

If they are serious about it they need to be able to price them lower than anything else available.

Funny thing is that the Asha 505 is now recognized as the cheapest bang for buck smartphone you can get sub usd100 (rm250 to be exact).

That is also a tough price to beat

Well we all know that the q5 was suppose to be the budget phone. And look at what they priced it at. I think they should forget about this new phone and use those resources in marketing. And just lower the price of the q5

I will be very surprised if the Jakarta will be able to compete with the Moto G. The Moto G isn't grabbing attention just because of its low price, it is so attractive because what it offers for that low price.

The Moto G is running the latest version of Android in a very close to vanilla form, it has every app a person could hope for without requiring work arounds, it has a better looking display than the Z30 and a quad-core processor. The only hardware areas where the Z30 manages to beat the Moto G is in screen size (this may be a good or a bad thing depending on the customer), camera, SD card slot, the HDMI port and battery size. So what are they going to do? Make the Jakarta better than the Z10 and nearly as good as the Z30? If not, I don't see why anyone would pay the same money for a BlackBerry 10 device instead of a Moto G.

Hopefully the Jakarta is closer to $100 off contract or the Moto G doesn't come to town.

300$ would be way too much for a real entry level phone. Seeing they hardly sell any Z10s for around 250 EUR (that's the street price in Germany since two months or even longer), the price has to be significantly lower than that.

Exactly, the lumia 520 is the one hitting hard here in Ecuador, if Blackberry wants to keep consumer market at entry level that's the rival to beat.

Probably $250 initially, then after a few months go down to $220-230, and finally $180-200. Indonesia doesn't use the contract system, so this is unlocked, off contract price. Since "Jakarta" is targeted for the Indonesian market (doesn't mean Indonesia only), I believe that would be the price accepted by Indonesians. $250 is still high I think, so IF BlackBerry can debut "Jakarta" at $220-230, they might get a boom again.

    Difficult question to answer.

If they release it in the UK, it needs to be sold for under 150.

The Z10 is sold for under 180 new and sim free at present and offers a near flawless package for the money, with the exceptions of great Battery life and robust app selection.

I would release this phone in the UK to replace the Z10 and give to remaining inventory of unsold Z10s to enterprise customers signing new agreement to BES10.

Still the Jakarta still needs to perform as well as the Q5 and sport a larger 4 inch screen attached to a physical Qwerty, if it is to add to the user experience and native/android app acceleration.
