I Am A Newbie So Bear With Me.have Older Blackberry Pearl And Just Bought 8gb Media Card And I Now Know I Need To Upgrade My Os Currently It Is(4.2.014) How Do I Know Which Phone Device I Have So I Can Get The Right Update?thanks For Any Help And This Site Looks Pretty Cool. Jack

That does not work on ones where voice activated dialing has been removed.

Open a memo on your BB and type myver (with a space afterward) you will see something like 8130/4.5.0.97

Not so much safer. One is an "official" version, the other is a beta.

I am running the beta on both my phones, but I generally try to
steer new users to an "official" version. The beta I am running
is very stable so if you wish to go that route you should be fine.

Operative words being "should be". Don't want you to come
looking for me

AT&T BlackBerry Software

Go to this site and download and install Desktop Manager 4.6.
4.7 is newer but there are a lot of reported issues with it.

Once it is installed, open it and it should prompt you to upgrade.
If it doesn't click Application Loader and under Add/Remove
click Start. That will trigger the process.
