I am the Director of Distance Learning for a small college, as well as I oversee the online course development department. For me the biggest thing about a BB is the reliability. I was using an android device, and it was ok, but between the missed calls and battery life I just couldn't take it any more. I just don't have the time to try out multiple roms to try and improve reception and battery life. I need to know that when I pull my phone off the charger in the morning, its going to last me through the day and do what I count on it to do. So when my second replacement Mesmerize crapped out on me, leaving me in a bind, and US Cellular offered a Bold 9650 as a replacement, I jumped at the chance to come back to BB.
What does my BB do most for me? Like I mentioned earlier, its that peace of mind that the reliability brings. I no longer worry that my boss will try calling and my phone won't ring. Second, I live by Dropbox and evernote. Having pdf's and assignments already in the cloud to where I can send them out is vital. Those 2 apps are the apps I use multiple times a day. Evernote is great since I have it working with outlook...can just shoot notes straight over from outlook to evernote to my BB. Thirdly, the ability to sync with outlook and not have to go through google calendar for work related items. GCal is fine for my personal use but not work.
Yes I get mocked by my collegues who all use iphones...but I cringe whenever one of them calls me ("hello...can't hear you...you're dropping in and out")

I know you said that you are in SAR, but why dont you share with us how your berry helps you out. I'd be interested to know if you have any EMS related apps, or apps that you would use in a SAR operation.
I'm a volunteer with my village's CERT program (Community Emergency Response Team). We are all trained in light SAR, First aid, traffic control, etc. It's something I really enjoy doing; so far (knock on wood) we've never had a disaster call-out (several emergency traffic control situations- had a bomb scare last summer where the cops went in on a meth lab, saw a pipe with an ignition switch on the end sticking out from under a pile of papers, and were concerned it was a pipe bomb. Turned out to be a potato gun, but still
)
I'm always looking for useful apps to help with that part of my volunteer work; I also do volunteer political work - I'm the volunteer chaplain for our county central committee. BB comes in handy for that; lot's of people with BB's so lot's of pin sharing there.__________________________

I am a scientist in the field of quantum physics and nanotech. My Storm gets emails using the the blackberry redirector at work since I can't forward my emails or set up BES with a personal device in the government. I play all my songs with the Storm and recently the playbook in the lab while taking measurements of samples as it gets lonely and boring.
I use the CLOSE FOCUSING AUTOFOCUS CAMERA *cough* RIM *cough* to take pictures of my samples, schematics, and electron microscope images for quick reference. I use the timer for reminders to pick up the liquid nitrogen dewar before it overflows. I take notes of sample recipes for future reference. I get reminders for seminars and talks which sync with the Storm's calendar ( and since I have a BB, INSTANT reminders for free food!).
I email attachments to me and use bridge to show graphs and images of samples to others. I use the playbook for hdmi presentations. I use the camera light of the Storm as a flashlight in the dark laser lab as it doesn't emit in the near infrared wavelengths around 1.3-1.5um during measurements.
AND finally I use the Storm as a USB device, with all my documents on there just in case I take them home to work. AND the Storm worked in Europe for work last time I went over with no problem....ok I'm done. lol. My work depends on BB...

Hey everybody. I am a social worker for Children & Families for the City of New York. I use my BB all the time and it is one of the only ways for me to communicate with the lawyers in my cases. Without push email Im not sure how I would ever get through to them because none of the lawyers ever pick up their phone.
I also receive all my emails from my agency to my bb and this helps ensure I always have the most recent information for my clients. So much of my job depends on emails and phone calls it is great to have a device that handles these demands so very well.
One of the most important features for me is the battery life. Many days I have to work overtime in the field and I am never sure of when I am going to be finished for the day. It is nice to have a phone that has such amazing battery life. My bb is def a life line with my career and am not sure what I would do with out it. - 08-11-2011, 08:13 PM #33
YES, YES & YES!
Likewise. My HTC Inspire 4g was a total let down compared to the way I was able to use both of my forays into BlackBerry.
I have been afforded the opportunity to travel and visit other countries extensively. My BlackBerry always worked wherever I went. All the other people who had made other mobile phone choices (that have/were/and will be traveling with me are always left with spotty coverage and reception.)
------------------
I use my BlackBerry almost stock. The only extra app I use is the flashlight one. SO HANDY! One time when it was really useful was when I thought to use the flashlight to help search for a firearm in the wilderness after having my mag light shatter from an arrest before that. I used one of the flashlight apps for light 40 minutes and was still able to use it for comms after a full day of BBM, YM, AIM etc. - another story about that the military budget for radio equipment where I was working at the the time was quite low so we often had to I.A.O. Using personal comms; more importantly using BBM for voicenotes and sharing pictures et. al (our radio replacement due to instant send/receive AND instant delivery/read notifications) A group of tech minded soldiers were able to convince the R.S.M. to allow the use of these devices because of the encryption the data goes through. Another time my BB came in handy was when I had to document blood spatter. I only had my 9800 on me (took pictures) and t he pictures that I submitted were more than clear enough to be used as evidence.
OK. Before that I used my 9530 in corporate IT and stationary sales. My pin and bar code were printed on the back of my business card which then made sending on the spot consultation and placing orders through me almost instantaneous. The ability to respond to my clients through emails, BBM & other chat platforms instantly increased my productivity and netted me more responsibilities and thusly more $$.
I also used my BlackBerry as a mobile internet platform. The only time it let me down was after I bought my 9530 and wasn't able to access porn through the 2g-3g coverage that alternated in Bermuda. I learned a really good lesson about that though - keep an open mind but don't expect the world and compromise on your chosen feature sets within your nerd/geek/dork/professional/regular joe tech toys.
I'm doing something full time in another country and my BB allows me (and future PlayBook) to still keep in constant contact with everyone back home without missing a stride with an unadulterated rendering of all the internet in its glory. ^_^;
Aside from all of that. The built in media control on the 9530 and 9800 were more than enough for me. I was able to share and play A LOT of music (getting everyone hooked on old skool and new reggae, dance hall reggae, dub, Caribbean influenced sound (ALL the islands) on downtime through BlueTooth and built in speaker of devices. One thing I did notice: Both of my BB's always played the content on my memory card. Where as my late HTC Inspire 4g media player would 98% of the time crash within 1-6 seconds of playing anything - audio & video.
BlackBerry is so popular in Bermuda. When I was on active duty there I ultimately picked one up because everyone else had one and I recognized the benefits of investing in a smartphone like that. It's a social phenomenon there and these lil' devices cross all walks of life, helping to bridge the straining gaps between differing economic and social classes.
Enough of me. More about everyone else!

Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Marine Unit. We patrol our ship channel and bay area, assisting the US Coast Guard protecting our waterways. I'm also one of the underwater Remote Operated Vehicle pilots and in training to become a diver.
I'm currently carrying a Torch 9800 from the Bold 9000. My BlackBerry's do it all for me, from waking me up everyday to keeping me on time and up to date with training and meetings. I'm constantly training, home and abroad. I will say this...when being stuck in airports on layovers, it WOULD be nice to have more of an entertaining cell phone that handles my business side as well. (come on QNX phones) My BlackBerry keeps me organized. My BBM is loaded with other officers, both here in the states and overseas.
I carry it bare bones, most of the time in a BDU pants pocket where it fits perfect. Occasionally, I have a waterproof phone pack it swims in lol

I'm an IT Tech at a hospital. My BB is used to communicate with my SysAdmin and to get any new work orders that come in via email. I also use it to listen to music, check weather, etc.
I wish there was a decent Insight Timer app like I had on the Android device, but I can cope.

I'm the owner of a Staffing firm that supplies a lot of the trucking companies in the area with truck mechanics as well as general workers as well.
I receive tons of emails and calls on a day to day basis depending on what orders I have open.
I'm able to receive resumes on my Torch, remove all the contact information using "docs to go" forward the resume to my clients for review and set up the interview. I can't begin to tell you how much money this Torch has made me.
I bought the ip4 when it came out and used it for about a month and had to come back to my berry, if nothing else she's far more reliable than my iphone....
Going to be moving to the 9900 as soon as I can find one too.Pin: 28E9D507

I work for a car audio shop. I personally install car audio eqiuptment and electronics. I guess with my berry I don't need it for my job but I much prefer the berry email over the android I used to use. It helps me when I send pics or need to contact technical support via email. Also there is a small group of us in the industry that have bb so we started a bbm group. Its not to active but helps when we need help on a fly.
Also I'm running a tmobile 9700. Half the times I have an otterbox case the other half I run the leather holster.

I use ToDoMatrix to keep track of tasks. Someone will mention an issue in passing, and I have a task for it in seconds on my BlackBerry, with a due date and a reminder. This kind of stuff can only work on a Blackberry. On other phones I wouldn't bother writing stuff down: numerous taps, swipes and virtual keyboards demand too much attention.

Sales, Marketing and most recently General IT. Used to do purchasing but now only a little tiny bit.
I did outside sales which required 8 hours in the car off an on. If only I had the BB at the time but I did have a Treo which made me further realize that these things are how jobs get done. My IT guy gave me crap for wanting a smartphone and my biggest argument with him was I didn't feel like coming home after 5 everyday to check work related emails only to have to wait until the next day to help a customer. I only would check email if I wanted to and gave me more time to do other things. And that is the short story of why I do General IT now.
lol
I supply equipment for various industries that most of you use every single day without even realizing it.
My Storm helped me the a lot of tasks to remember, appointments and email. Carry around a data planner was a pain to keep up to date and carry around.
Now I can carry all my contacts with me and not have to worry if I have that persons information.
Helps me stay organized as most can relate to. It is so useful that I convinced my wife to get one and she picked a Bold 9650 because of the keyboard.
And I try to use existing inventory technologies and integrate them into my business. The BB helps me remember and organize my thoughts. The playbook helps me take notes in the warehouse quickly for changes that need to be made. My old tablet was able to print labels when I was connected to my desktop BUT I have been to lazy to figure out how to do that with my Playbook.Last edited by flyersfan76; 08-12-2011 at 10:55 AM.

Ahahah, its pretty fun actually. The funniest is when my BB starts vibrating in my pocket in the nanofabrication wing where everything is super clean and you have to wear full-body suits with gloves, boots and everything. My ringtone is "Lil Jon - Get Low" and all the other scientists just look at me and I can't get at my phone to turn it off....embarrassing...
It sounds awesome, but you gotta go through a PhD in quantum physics...it really has an effect on your sanity at times...Blackberry Torch 9860 w/ OS 7.0.0.540

I work at home depot and hence being around being around building materials and everything else there I use my curve in a otterbox defender and been pretty happy so far with that combo. But will most likely be upgrading to the 9930 when it hits sprint. Mike
