What if BB10 is a big big bust?
I know all of us hope BB10 is a success, but what if it is a bust. What does that mean for RIM and the future of Blackberry? My guess is a purchase by Samsung or some other company. What do you guys think?

I don't want to think about it. Things will work out so I'm not concerned in the slightest. So long as there is the need, they will be here. And I really don't see how they can fail. WP8 I think will be a bust. If that happens then RIM is a shoein to be a great #3. And remember they still are now. All they have to do is hold that spot.

whats the metric to call it a bust? I think in the short to medium term if it stops market share bleed-off it succeeded. If folks are looking fo BB10 to swoop in sell 5 million handsets in the first weekend and have crazy nut bars lining up the night before for blocks on end, then I think those folks will be disappointed.
I think a big part of BB10 success will be how quickly and willingly companies upgrade their infrastructure to accept the BB10. - 11-19-2012, 01:19 PM #4
Samsung has expressed absolutely ZERO interest in either buying RIM, investing in an equity stake, or licensing BB10. Amazon has expressed interest, as has Microsoft. Either of them might come to the table. I've long believed that RIM could convince MS to take a big equity chunk if RIM ditched its own system software and became a Windows Phone shop.

LOL. Hey! We've waited two years for BB10.....two years. Ok? You trying to cause trouble, buddy?
We have more Elephants.
Seriously, if it is a bust...... you move on to another device. Simple. From the head MOFO in charge:
"BlackBerry has acknowledged how important the U.S. market will be to its turnaround efforts. "You got to win here to win everywhere else," BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins told the AP. "That's just the way it is."

RE: What if BB10 is a big big bust?
If it is a bust, then the company either goes under (slowly) or is broken up, the share price ia back up because bb10 represents potential - nobody will listen to "no wait, bb11 will be a winner!"
But let us wait until the devices are actually released and we have some sales data before we go down that road...

The carriers are right...competition is needed. Customers like choice...no compeition, no innovation, no choice....at that pace the iPhone 6 will have 6 rows of icons and the Galaxy S4 will have a 6-core processor.

Simply my opinion. Factually you are correct, but you can't say an opinion is or isn't. We will have to wait to see for ourselves.
I would love to see all the top 4 platforms continue in some way and offer what they have to consumers because choice is good. And as the smartphone revolution continues there is room for one and all. But, sales will determine what lives and what dies. Right now RIM sales in the US suck, but there is good opertunity for a turnaround. And that is what Microsoft is trying to do now.I'm addicted to Crack.........Berry

Re: What if BB10 is a big big bust?
LOL. I can believe it.
If BB10 fails, us BB fans will be quite dissapointed. But, if anything, it will fail because of still stagnant misconceptions in the general public from previous failures and biased media reporting. It will come down to the true readiness of BB10 at launch and intense advertising and hype. Aiming for a larger market share against Apple and Android devices would require BB10 to be near perfect with the majority of popular apps available on app world. Makes it hard to stay positive until it's in the hands of customers, it performs as promised and they are happy with it. I'll try and stay positive and spread the love as much as I can until then.Thank You Crackberry!

There's only one platform I wouldn't move to. Android. The chances of them going bust are in the negative percentage range.

I have BlackBerry products now, won't give them up, will be first in line for BB10, then what will be will be.

I'm on to WP8. If BB10 fails then RIM deserves it. Many people have been waiting for years for RIM to deliver a competitive product. You can't expect people to keep giving them excuses
QNX and LTE, hand me a pen and let's do this.

I think there are two questions:
1) will BB10 be a great, differentiated product that is superior in some ways to the alternatives, and
2) will the market value it appropriately?
I'd bet my HD-DVD and Betamax collection that the bigger challenge is 2). - 11-19-2012, 02:48 PM #20
Look at BlackBerry 10. The caliber of innovation and thought that has gone into flow, design and function is unmatched by any of the competitors. BlackBerry 10 is a complete re-architecture of mobile paradigms previously unseen anywhere. This super phone is for adults.
Have you seen the beauty of the phone screen?

BlackBerry 10 will feel natural to use and interact with. It will be like an extension of your own hand. No buttons. No abrupt movements. Swipe in and out. Flow. Peek. Decide. Notifications and important communications streamed in REAL-TIME to The BlackBerry Hub. The classic led indicator we've all come to know and love, right there. I can go on and on. BB10 being a bust is the last thing that comes to mind when I think of RIM's future. I think the OS itself will do fine and development will progress nicely. My main concern would be with how RIM decides to keep up with hardware demand. In my opinion, their phone specs aside from their last Bold were sub par. I owned 2 blackberries which I loved to death, but in regards to performance, they wore out fast and lagged behind other phone developers. If they can find a way to somehow keep their phones "fresh" I think RIM will once again find themselves comfortably in the top 3.

I don't know why anyone would waste their time playing the "what if" negative edition. If BB10 isn't all it portends to be, the world will still revolve around the sun and life will go on. Simple.
That said, I, personally, think that BB10 will turn out to be even better than we expect.

Bite your tongue. I don't think it will be a bust and I'm not sure if it will take off like we would hope it will. Given the amount of time that RIM has taken to "perfect" BB10 if it only levels the field with the competition I for one would be happy while the competition will be like pffft. If the Aristo and its specs are real then this will up the ante. People will come back if the apps are there or if RIM/BB10 is innovative. IMHO
