My storm 2 is unlocked and using it with T-Mobile. I managed to download OS 5.0.0.713 off of the verizon wireless site, without having a verizon number. What would happen if i install it on my phone. Would it mess up my IM's and not let me sign in? Would it do anything bad to my phone since its a verizon update?

you'll be fine as long as it's made for the storm 2 and you Delete the vendor file before installing. I'm running on Vodafone's .681 and my Carrier is Batelco

I'm not sure what it is and it does, but I do know that deleting the vendor file will allow you to install an OS which is not actually released by your Carrier. have a look at this

When installing ANY OS that is NOT from YOUR carrier it IS necessary to delete the Vendor XML file. Otherwise, it will NOT install to device.
Its location is specified in the Installation Guide in my Previous Post

Wait... Verizon is CDMA (9550) and Tmobile is GSM (9520). Do not install a cdma OS on a gsm device. You have to download the correct OS for your device model.

Assuming you have a gsm storm 2, you need to download an OS for the 9520... But, if you have unlocked a verizon device to run on tmobile then it should be fine, I guess...

You should be good as long as you download the OS that is specific to your model BB. Don't download the 9520 OS if you have the 9550, only download the 9550 OS.

Since the 9550 is dual mode (CDMA and GSM capabilities) ie 8830WE, 9630, 9650, downloading the correct software won't make any difference as long as the device is unlocked and set to run in GSM mode with the T-Mobile SIM card.
