I was recently on top of a tank at work doing some welding with another worker. We handed our phones over to the guy on watch because if we fall there's a chance the phone could get damaged(What kind of shadow is that? Why it's a foreshadow!). My naked Torch 9800 and his iPhone 4 in a bumper case.
The guy on watch, for whatever reason put our phones down on a big flat piece of cardboard that's holding the parts we're replacing. It starts to get windy and once we have the last part in place a huge gust of wind lifts the cardboard up and we watch our phones tumble down 35 feet. After a ridiculous amount of cursing, we get to the bottom and upon seeing the red/orange flash of my LED(Advance OS and LED is cool!) I exclaim (no joke, actual quote)"Hey, I have a text message from my girlfriend! How's your iPhone?".
Poor guys screen was destroyed and the iPhone wouldn't boot up, luckily he had accident insurance. The battery cover came off the Torch and it's scuffed up on one side.
I realize that this is probably more luck than anything, how they fell etc. but they both launched off the same spot and landed within 10 feet of each other on pavement.
In my experience, what can my BB do that an iPhone can't? A 35 foot vertical free fall.

I'm not sure there is an absolute right or wrong with this. Importance is relative to the person using it. If was absolutely critical, or more important as you say, then 1 of the top 2 selling tablets would have an SD slot. Kindle Fire and iPad both lack it, and use cloud support.

What my BB does is something no other OS can do. It bridges to my PlayBook for seamless access to my social networking and email. On top of that it acts as a remote control when my PlayBook is hook to my TV on the other side of the room. And it safely stores all my information so I don't have to duplicate it on a second device. Oh yeah, it also makes phone calls without dropping them. You know, what a phone is suppose to do.

FWIW, I'm on a PC at work. When I was first browsing this thread I wasn't logged in, and antheauxny's pic came up as a link you had to click, and when I clicked the link I was prompted to log in to see the pic. When I logged in I could see the pic within his post, and the pic showed up a lot smaller than the pics embedded with photobucket (for example) show up.

Agreed. It's getting pretty confusing. I see a lot of things mentioned that one CAN do on Android, but might not be able to do on iOS (and I wouldn't know because I have practically zero experience on iOS). Or perhaps they're mentioning things that they genuinely think can't be done on Android, or weren't able to do on Android on past devices.

I think overall, there are somethings BB can do but not iPhone. For one, BB got an excellent BBM messenger but then again, when you see things rationally. If you can find one thing that is available on BB that is not on other platform, then you can find 10 things that is available on other platform but not on BB.
The ratio is 1:5 or even 1:10 (BB:Others). In the end, if you want to compare, BB will loose out unfortunately... Lets hope BB10 helps. I am not expecting BB to be better than other phones but lets make it a more level playing field

why do you want your blackberry to do everything without relying on third party apps? that is exactly why vista failed because it tried to please everybody.
android/iphone does not have this mentality. this also lead people into "shrinking" their blackberry OS because they were running out of memory for storing media.
blackberry also forces you to pay for an otherwise free service(googletalk, msn). i would like be given a choice to pay for using said services like the choice android and iphone gives me - 05-10-2012, 01:07 PM #119
recently switched to iphone (from a bb curve) and two of the biggest things i miss:
- being able to start dialing to make a call instantly; no need to swipe to the left and search or go to phone\keypad
- audio options - wish i could set one additional ringtone option in addition to the default 2 with the side key
from a price perspective, though, it was easier for me to switch to an iphone 4 after seeing it to be only $100 with contract compared to the bb bold which was over $200, even more than the 4s. - 05-10-2012, 01:12 PM #120
my roommate has a 4S. 95% of his requests to siri fail much to his chagrin. "sorry chris. i can't look for x in canada". also siri doing a google search when we're trying to figure something out is slower than just doing it with your hands on any device... just my experiences with it.
all platforms can do this, but my main uses for a phone is a communications device. and my preferred method of communicating is through text messages. literally thousands of keystrokes a day. it would be tens of thousands of touches if it weren't for the combination of a physical keypad and dedicated buttons with shortcuts. interoperability between devices is also big for me. i don't like being pigeonholed into using only idevices.Last edited by 416to604; 05-10-2012 at 01:21 PM.

iOS has a closed file system. One app is not allowed to access another apps files. An app is allowed to transfer a copy of that file to another app. So you are viewing a PDF in Safari, you then transfer it to iBooks. You cannot open Goodreader and read the PDF, it must be transferred either by iBooks or Safari first. Yes, this does result in multiple copies of a file on your device.
My BB: Built-in Media Storage 6.2 GB, 5.8 GB free. Media Card Storage 7.4 GB, 6.6 GB free.
Of course I am not everyone.
Even at a 1:10 ratio, if BB does what's important better, then they win. It is the reason that I, a long time iPod, Mac, and iPad (since release month) user went with a BB when I decided to jump on the smartphone bandwagon.Last edited by Mr.Willie; 05-10-2012 at 02:23 PM.

What I've learned so far from this thread is that with an iPhone you can "type blind" and with a Blackberry you can "drive with one hand and text".
C'mon people ...This doesn't make a BB vs Apple purchase decision any easier for us farsighted motorcyclists. - 05-10-2012, 02:25 PM #124850, 7250, 8830, 9800, Z10 & PB
