Now we know TCL is doing manufacturer job and BlackBerry is doing software only, so what about all those patent which BlackBerry already has ? TCL should build those phones and BlackBerry should focus on software.

    EDIT:

Blackberry should choose 3-4 designs which are popular sale wise and do the sequence like Samsung and Apple do. BlackBerry should stop building phones from scratch and follow Priv, Keyone and Slab form factor. Refining a design is much easier than building a brand new phone.

Probably sit on most of them, license a few to their partners and go patent trolling with the rest.

IMO TCL is doing better marketing than BlackBerry. Bringing CB team to launch was such a productive idea rest we can see in couple of months.

    1. Patents expire.

    2. Patents only cover a specific method of doing something. Nothing prevents others from inventing a slightly different way of achieving the same goal.

    3. Many things BB (and thousands of other companies) have patents on are no longer things that anyone uses or cares about. Tech moves very, very quickly, so patents are often obsolete by the time they are officially awarded.

    4. BB's patents definitely have some value, but as we've seen repeatedly over the last 5 years or so, tech patents have turned out to be a whole lot less valuable than previously assumed (mostly based on patents in other fields, such as manufacturing, where progress tends to be much slower).

    5. The courts have been, and are increasingly more against patent trolling, which has contributed to the lower valuations on many patents.

    6. I'm sure BB has been generating licensing revenue for some of their patents for a long time. They also previously cross-licensed patents with other companies that had patents that BB needed. I know they had cross-licensed with Motorola, which is why Moto was able to make phones with BB-style PKBs.

what about tons of patents which BlackBerry have?-motorola-defy-pro1.jpg

1st Step is to create a phone that could be considered "popular"....

Popularity is tangible term as we know colgate is almost same toothpaste since decades yet they didn't stop marketing and advertising of the same. BlackBerry is bad at marketing and advertising we all know that. New prospective is if TCL don't do the same.

Its not all about patents! BlackBerry didn't built many phones due to lack of funds but TCL can if they want.

Um, I don't agree that "lack of funds" was why BB didn't build many phones. They had / have lots of money in the bank. They stopped building phones because they were losing money on the process.

Of course you will loose money when you build a phone and nobody know in the world. Android crowd was lot of potential but BlackBerry killed it with Priv's price. Niche, corporate bull ****e
