i have this weird symbol on my blackberry curvee 8900 on the top in between the time and the battery,....its a circle has a 1 on the left side of the circle have a arrrow going down diaagonally with a lil red circe on the top right of the big circe nd the red circle has a white star in it help please!!!!!!!!!!1

I believe that it means that one of the apps you downloaded from the BlackBerry App World has been updated.

Correct! An app has an update available for download. Either that, or the OTA OS is avail, but most likely its just an app...

Side note, App World DOES have to be currently open to receive these notifications, correct?

Correct.

Sign into BlackBerry App World and check for app updates.

Then go to your "Messages" folder and delete the App World update alert from there.
