Yes BlackBerry is working on a PlayBook replacement... just not very hard. Who knows when or if there will ever be one released.... it's not currently on any roadmap.

If you want one... the original three year old PlayBook is still available via a few online sellers (Amazon, Ebay). I would suggest the one with 64GB of memory (no SD card slot). Only other option is if you want on that will connect to your carriers network... you might can find one of those used.

Sad to say, but BB/Rim has placed the Playbook at End Of Life, no more updates coming, what you see when you turn it on is what you get.

BUT, you can still get good deals on the "remains" out there, and for what it is, 3/4 year old tech, it is still a viable unit, as long as you don't expect to much. Couch surfing, audio to stereo with BT, Nav, movie player while in the car for the young ones (or yourself),etc. I use my "play" PB for audio streaming in the Ridgeline, and nav, asnd my other unit is cabled to my tv and stereo with a BT music gateway, controlled by my Z30 (which in my opinion is what the Playbook should have been......)

Yes, it is "closed", but if you decide to go ahead and still get one, get the 64gb unit if you can, music and videos will fill up fast and you will want more storage if you go with the lesser capacities units (16 and 32 gb)

This. My uncles have them and they're sweet.

I still use my PB64 as a media player for games and Web.

I would avoid it. They are cheap but forget about browsing the web on it, the browser is as slow as molasses.

Don't buy a playbook. Old tech, no longer supported and a fraction of the capability of even the most inexpensive tablets on the market. A gen 1 nexus 7 is cheap and will allow you to do much more than a playbook. Q

Personally I went with a Dell venue 8pro as it runs full desktop applications.
Still have the PlayBook and use it as a media player for my daughter.
