To upgrade to OS 4.5 or not
that is the question....currently running OS 4.3. Any difference between OS? If I decide to upgrade will I lose all my downloaded stuff that I just put on this today? Just got the phone yesterday.
Thank you,

I just checked my desktop manager with phone connected to check for updates and it says no updates available. I'm hearing talk of 4.5 OS but i'm running 4.3.

The version you have is the one your carrier provides, if you decide to upgrade, it has to be done manualy.
The differences are subtle, you already have the Video, Voice notes, Improved Browser and Media player.
The upgrade does offer HTML support of email and streaming media.
It has also fixed a couple bugs you may not have noticed. The most annoying is loosing your speaker when you are trying to make a phone call. The bug that keeps resetting your pictures back to your device has also been fixed.

The sticky at the top of the 83xx forum with the 8330 os listed. I would suggest doing some reading before you attempt this. Start with the proper upgrade procedure in my signature

This is the latest version supported by the most progressive carrier. The upgrade is simple, follow the step in the guide.
Make sure you have a current backup. You should not need it, but will be there, just in case. - 01-22-2009, 05:44 PM #7
My GF has an 8330 on Sprint that is also running 4.3. I do not believe that Sprint has released 4.5 for their 8330s, yet. 4.3 on Sprint has everything that I have on the 4.5 with AT&T (i.e. HTML e-mail, video recording).
This may not be able to help you, but the differences I found between the 4.3 and 4.5 on AT&T (other than e-mail, video) were very subtle. I did notice that the boot sequence took much longer for the first week of use or so, but did speed up to what I was used to seeing (perhaps a little faster than 4.3, now).
Unless you just want to run the latest and greatest, I'd just leave it at 4.3 until Sprint releases their official 4.5. If something is hosed up, you can just blame them! When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.

Thanks Raptor. Im going to leave well enough alone! Everything is running good and obviously Sprint doesn't have an upgrade or it would be on the desktop manager. Thats fine. Video, everything works great! I'm addicted. Any help with that?

Well, I'm not 100% up to speed on the Desktop Manager, but I think you will have to download the update and install it on your computer before the DM will see it.
I think the update feature just tells it to look for an update locally on your computer. I may be in error here, though.
Good luck with the 8330; I love my 8310. :-)When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.
