When I go to update to 4.5, it says that my Blackberry is on the Blackberry Enterprise Server and cannot update. How do I switch to BIS to install 4.5?

Are you active on BES? If you are using a company issued BB, you need to ask your BES admin to update for you.

Nope, not a company phone. Personal BB. Not sure why it is even BES.

Did you get the phone second hand from someone? You could have an IT policy left in place on the phone. If that is the case here is a post that explains how you can remove it.

    Also, a brand new phone.

    Frustrated yet? I sure am.

You must be doing something incorrectly then. When you installed Desktop Manager did you select Personal in the beginning?

Here is a link that outlines how to go about updating your device.
