    Default update old spare blackberry

I have my wife's old Bold 9000 plugged in and trying to bring the battery back to life. If I succeed does it have to have a sims card in it in order for me to try and do a update on it?

No. You can update the OS with or without the SIM present.

You might just be better off buying a new battery off Ebay.

Well I still haven't been able to revive the old battery. The phone has been on constant charge for 4 days but since I'm a patience soul I will give it a week. Just red light at first and then a battery icon some times showing a lightning bolt.

well believe it or not the old battery came to life tonight. when i walked into the kitchen and saw it on i was very happy. it had been plugged in solid since about last Thursday and it took it this long to come back. so always just let it sit for a very long time before you ever throw out what actually may be a good battery.

    Congratulations, your Patience pays off...
But the real question now is for how long the battery holds after it's charged..

well the battery is still on full charge after a day. I was able to use wifi with no sim card installed and check for updates for the Bold 9000 running OS 5 . Of course there was no updates available so I left it turned on and will allow the battery to run down so I can charge it again. Looks like I'll have to relearn the OS 5 if I ever have to use the phone in an emergency.
