    Default Unlocking BB 10?

My carrier (Fido) is not going to have BB 10 at launch. Any idea if unlock codes will be available as soon as BB 10 is launched? I am likely to buy a BB 10 on launch day from Rogers, Telus or Bell (wherever I get best pricing) but would need to unlock it to make it work with Fido.

Rogers phone used to work with Fido but newer Rogers-locked phones don't work with Fido without unlocking anymore.

Yes Fido. The only carrier not onboard for the BB10 release. I am buying a handset to use my Fido dollar balance, selling it, and then moving away from Fido. I can get everything they offer on any carrier now. I don't know why Rogers just doesn't shut them down if they are not going to allow them to do business in a reasonable way. And no way am I porting to Rogers. That's what they want you do. I'm taking my money elsewhere.

I thought once you buy a unlocked phone of contract you could use with any carrier. Is that not the case?

In most cases the phone will work to give basic GSM/2G fallback, but one carrier's 3G and LTE frequency bands may not be supported by phones supplied to a different carrier.

Fortunately Bell and Rogers are both using 1700/2100/2600 MHz, Band 4/7.

I hope they are not locked or can be as easily unlocked as the current phones. 14 days and we may know.

All the software is new. It is highly likely a new locking scheme will be used to reduce the risk of contract fraud on a high value device.
