So now the Search icon in BB10 brings up BlackBerry Assistant. I can't seem to find a universal search any more. Is it gone or can I just not find it? If gone that was stupid to get rid of that feature.

It's not gone. Can you post a screenshot of what happens when you try to search for an app and tell me what OS version you updated from and what you have now and how did you get the update please?

The only way I know how to do it is to open up the assistant app and search from there.

Search and Voice Control appear to have been merged into BlackBerry Assistant, so you're in the right place.

OP there have been issues with BlackBerry Assistant. You are in the right place for universal search. This is supposed to function the same way through BlackBerry assistant. However, there are a lot of people having issues with BlackBerry Assistant since installing the latest update 10.3.1. I am one such person and have yet to find a solution.

Essentially, the Assistant for some reason doesn't recognize local apps and data or see it.

I have tried every suggestion in the forums with no success but perhaps you will have some success with the offered solutions so I suggest you do a search of the forums.

Did anyone try loading 10.2.1's search .bar on 10.3.1 and seeing if it works?

The reason I asked the OP for more info was to determine if he had been affected by a known bug that affected others and myself when upgrading non-destructively or restoring data after a clean OS install from 10.2.xxxx to 10.3.xxxx. So far the only way I know how to fix it is to use a 10.3.1.xxxx autoloader to update or wipe the phone after installing 10.3.xxxx but do not restore settings if doing a restore after.

    False alarm!

Is Universal Search gone in BB10?-img_20150309_174545.png

This is what I see, but I wasn't paying attention to the small text input and was drawn to the voice input and thought that was only way. Highlighted the text box, started typing and it worked just like old way. All the eye candy distracted me from the text input.

I missed it too, to be honest. Seems less snappy now that it's loading the other stuff though.

Yeah I think I'd like to keep search the way it was and have a dedicated button or launch icon for the assistant. It seems to be better at voice commands but still not great.

I swear any time I use it I think of Windows phone. Those tiles are a dead rip of it.

Don't need to launch assistant, just start typing on home screen examples like 'call Renee' or 'play can't touch this'. Assistant automatically comes up.
