I will be using data roaming for 1 week while I visit the states. My issues is I need to keep connected to the BES for my email and Calendar, I know this does not use much data so I dont have a issue with this. What I am worried about is the 3rd party applications I have installed such as Weather Bug & Viigo. Do they automatically make data connections in the background or only when there open. Obviously I dont want to pay for roaming charges for un-necessary data access as TELUS charges me $6/MB. Do I need to uninstall the applications or is there a way I can limit data so that I can still get my Email and Calendar OTA but nothing else. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think you can turn off Weatherbug's access - check its options. There is some connection option and maybe it you give it a non-existent one, it will just stall. I don't know the other app.
