1. I don't use any shortcuts at all. Icons serve the great. I don't take the time to remember all the shortcuts though...
2. Erm... you would have to do that from your email provider. I don't think you can filter emails using the BB.
On #2 you can set up filters for your BIS accounts via your mobile service provider's BIS site. For your BES emails you can use the filters in DM or Outlook.
I only use the profile shortcut. It comes in handy when I need to switch my phone to vibrate. O/w it's icons all day, I have enough to remember.

Do we have the choice to hide certain Icons and use the shortcut for those instead? I think I read somewhere here that our only choice was to either to use all the Icons or all the shortcuts. It would be nice if we could use some shortcuts. I've got too many Icons and it makes my eyes spin in my head to look at all of them....
I have Mailwasher that keeps all emails from entering my email account unless I permit them to come through. But it seems not to be keeping them all from reaching my BB. I have BIS, not a corporate acct. I did go to one email's Site and 'unsubscribed' so it won't come thru anymore. But not all have that option.

What's the shortcut for Profiles?
-----
The shortcut for profiles is the F key
if you hide icons
other than unhiding them
can you get to them another way ?
I hid the ones that I really will probably never use, like E-Mail setup (I like the Gmail app better, but if I need it, it's still on there) and some other things.
The ones I do use, but don't want them cluttering up the applications screen, I stick in a folder. Things such as games or the phone app. I have my right quick button (whatever it's called) set up to switch applications, so I can just select the phone like that....or just push the phone key.
