Slider or Touch+Type
With speculation of what the six devices at the BlackBerry 10 launch will be I saw some discussion of how important a slider form factor could be.
If you were given the option to choose between a 9790, 9370, and 9810 which one would you pick and why, price notwithstanding?
And between the 9790, 9370 set OR the 9810, which grouping would you choose from?
I searched the forum but looks like there is no recent version to this debate.Last edited by mrskycar; 01-10-2013 at 09:55 PM. Reason: attempt to change topic title

Nothing personal or should I say its a personal choice. I just don't care for a slider type device. Seems more fragile and more likely to break if a drop were to happen.......and sooner or later a phone is going to be dropped

I fell in love with the portrait slider style with the Palm Pre. I have a Bold 9650. The Torch keyboard did not look good. But over all I prefer the slider. There are some good points against it, but the tactile experience of opening it and holding it is nice. I am really anxious to see if a BB10 slider will be offered. I am afraid I am going to end up buying three BB10s before this year is over.

I actually prefer the slider format as it is the best of both. I like the keyboard primarily but also prefer a generally enhanced screen. With a Torch format I could watch content on the go from time to time and not feel a compromise.

Torch for me! Best phone I ever had, dropped it countless times and still works perfectly and like mrskycar said, it'sthe best of both world, large screen and physical keyboard. Love it. I will be getting the z10 initially but as soon they offer a slider version I'll switch.

I hate slider phones. They seem so cheap, aren't easy to type on (Unless its landscape), and usually pretty bulky.
The Bold is classic Blackberry form, thin, comfortable to type on and so well made. The build quality is superb. - 01-10-2013, 03:37 PM #8
Prefer my 9930 over my work 9810. Like the screen real estate on the torch. Both phones are tough have withstood lots of drops. The torch is too wide...just love the look and feel of the bold. If a thin slider was available I would get it.

Seems an odd selection of devices to mention when your subject was Torch or Bold, the odds are that for a slider to make it into that top 6 of devices this year it would need to displace a 3rd all-touch or a new playbook rather than a 2nd bold.
I think with the way that the market is going, we won't see a slider until next year at the earliest. - 01-10-2013, 08:41 PM #11Z10

I won't own another phone with moving parts...I had the Torch 9800 for awhile, and it was loose when it was closed, made it feel fragile (even though I dropped it plenty and it always worked fine). I had to put some black tape on the back of the slider to firm it up...plus it was just too bulky. The 9900 is where it's at for me...at least until BB10 arrives.

After having problems with my then Torch 9800 & using my then Torch 9810, I find that slider seems to fragile at one point. I'm a clumsy kind of guy, so slider or flip won't work for me. Or else I'll be spending much of my money for the maintenance of my phones lol... just a matter of personal taste by the way.

It is an odd selection of devices but I couldn't alter the title to fit the body. I submitted the placeholder title. The poll should still be independent but I choose those devices for debate because they are equal in appeal and should be closer in price, which weights judgement more on form than any other variable.

I've got a Torch & a Bold (9800 & 9900). Prefer the Bold by far, whilst I like the slider on the Torch and the bigger screen the keyboard is too cramped for my thumbs so I make too many typos. Best ever BB keyboard was the 9300 curve, thumb-friendly raised keys you could feel. Could type like lightning on that.

I have had the 9810 for well over a year. It is as tough as a phone comes. And yes, mine unfortunately gets abused ALOT. I would say that my phone drops at least once a week. Its a rock solid device, build wise. The keyboard is a tad bit cramped, but its adjusted to very easy. Its very similar to the 9700/9780 keyboard I came from before the 9810. I sooooo very much want to grab the Z10 when it launches, but Im not a fan of the all touch keyboard. I am truly hoping RIM launches a slider to replace my torch.

My first BB was the 9800 and now I have the 9810. I have no problems typing on the keyboard and love the screen real estate. Though it is a little bulkier and heftier than the 9900, I like the extra weight. It is a solid tough phone that can take a licking and keep on ticking (my apologies to Timex). I won't be able to update until June, so I am going to be very excited about the different models of BB10 that are released. Thankfully there is an AT&T store around the corner from my work. I'll be trying out and drooling all over the devices until I can upgrade. Hmmm, maybe I can beg, wheedle and plead my long term association with AT&T into an early uprgrade?

I just voted for Torch. Dead heat. 18 votes each. Why can't we have landslide elections anymore?
