No idea on the app you are looking for, but unless you have an
external GPS receiver of some sort, you will not be able to fully
use the GPS function of your BB. Verizon locks that down so the
only app you can use with the internal GPS is VZW Navigator.
I think it is called MGMaps and there is a way to pre-download topo's so you don't need a data connection...I used it last year in the Rockies and it worked pretty well.
also when you are done with your hike you can save the KML file and import it into Google maps.
i'll try and find some more info
what do you mean "locks down"? And where can I get an external receiver, how much etc?
thanx 4 the help tallelf
1) The site for the app tallef mentioned: Mobile GMaps - View maps from various sources on your mobile phone!
2) Locks down means that the internal GPS is crippled to the point
where it will only work with the VZW app which you must pay
a monthly fee to use.
3) You can find external receivers in the CrackBerry Store. The
Freedom Keychain is very popular and highly rated
I just recently found this application. I use it on my 8310 Curve. I don't know if it's just my phone, or if others are having this problem, but it seems extremely slow, although it does accomplish the purpose, which is being able to view your gps location on Topo maps. And its free, so can't complain too much.
Do a google search for Touratel to find the app. You'll have to navigate to the link for their cell phone app.
