A collection of what I would call the most significant decisions from Blackberry that caused the decline of a smartphone pioneer from a consumers perspective:

    1. Between 11/08 and 08/11 (the time of the rise of Iphone and Android devices), for nearly three years, every GSM High End Blackberry had a Marvell SoC (PXA930/PXA940) clocked at 624 Mhz without OpenGL support. Speed improvements were only caused by upgrading the RAM from 128 to 256 to 512 MB. As the BBOS got fatter and fatter, the workflow got slower and slower.

    2. Blackberry Storm. A half-baked touchscreen device launched as an Iphone Killer with an OS that was never meant to be used via touchscreen. Caused first scratches on RIMs reputation.

    3. BIS necessity. BIS should have been optional for users willing to pay a monthly extra fee for BB Push and data compression. Most consumers didn't want to pay these extra fees for features that were free on other devices and would have bought BB smartphones if they had supported IMAP/POP3, featured a normal browser and could be uses like other smartphones without BIS.

    4. Blackberry Playbook. A half-baked touchscreen device with an OS that lacked basic features. It never received the promised update to BB10 because software development took so long that the specs of the device were outdated when the OS was "ready".

    5. Launch of BB devices with OS 10.0/10.1/10.2 These iterations were half-baked (although the launch was pushed back) and lacked lots of features of its predecessor OS 7.1 (even 10.3.1 still lacks several important features!). Blackberry should have released OS8 devices as an interim solution and continued developing BB10 to make it ready for a launch on competitive (!) devices with 10.2.1.

    6. Blackberry Q10, the antipode of the Storm. Thorsten Heins wanted to sell 'tens of millions' of units of a keyboard device with an OS hat was never meant to be used the way consumers expected it to be (like old BB OS devices).

What would you name as the top mistakes by BB/RIM?

Woulda Coulda Shoulda. Even I admit I do that sometimes but c'mon! John Chen IS doing the right things to strengthen the BlackBerry business model and return them to profitability.
I see BlackBerry models as being PROsumer rather than CONsumer oriented. For the record, I enjoy my Q10!

OP, we all know the history of BlackBerry's decline and all the mistakes and strategic errors that were made. It has been rehashed at least 1000 times on CB. There is no way in which we can change the past, so why dwell on it? Wouldn't it be a better idea to focus on the present and what John Chen is doing?

It was a bold move to switch from BBOS to BB10. It was just done two years late. While the other platforms exploded in the consumer space, BlackBerry had no real way to respond with its antiquated OS. They simply did not recognise the threat or the market early enough.

No one cares bro. We're all aware of the mistakes made, it's all about fixing them now. Enough beating the dead horse.
