Self explanatory. I have been holding out waiting for word on a new tablet from blackberry but nothing. So I feel like I have to explore my options. One thing that my z10 has shown me is that the PlayBook browser is slow. My PlayBook is still going but my kid has basically hijacked it.

If you guys were gonna get a tablet which one would you recommend today?

What do you do out of your tablets? Do you primarily use them for entertainment or do you also need them for productivity functions?

^^ Yes. It all comes down to preference. Tablets purchasing decisions are not to be the same as phones.

That's exactly what I was going to ask. Want games? Want lots of apps? Have a specialty software you need it to run? For work? For a laptop substitute? I'm sure people can suggest to you something appropriate.

I'm a playbook user myself, but I've been falling out of love with it quickly.
I intend to purchase an ipad.

If that's it, I'd say an iPad, iPad Mini, or any of the Android tablets (just not the cheapie knock-off brands).

How soon are you looking? There are some better chips coming this fall. I'm going to be looking at a win8 tab with the new atom and a few more chips in them, not RT either. They will also be for android tablets.

i actually grabbed a Nook HD+ a couple weeks ago. The interface isnt bad and has full Play Store support now. I think you can grab one for $150 right now which makes it a real steal.

If that's the intended use, save the money my friend. Go effective but easy on the pockets.

If you want to eventually break out and have it as a primary device for on the go and business....the Surface is the way to go. The price point is high but I've had hands on experience with one and its legit. Good for both true production and entertainment.

Does XDA support that? I haven't really looked at the specs on it.

yeah they do. They have a couple CM versions flooting around. I rooted it so I can do some minor tweaks but it honesltly doesnt need it. Think it has the same cpu/gpu combo as the Z10. Comes with full 1080p display but its lacking in other things like GPS and such. Just depends on what you want to use it for

Got to laugh a bit well, what would have been the alternative? iOS or Android. There are no alternatives.

The new iOS multitasking cards will feel like playbook for iPads. Wouldn't that be a great alternative? And safari is also getting a big update.

The Surface is without doubt the most capable tablet in the market right now. The Surface Pro is pretty much equivalent to many light-weight laptops.

I've been thinking about a windows tablet but for now I'm good with my PlayBook. I mainly use it for games and music with some video and Web browsing. My phone has become a more primary driver and I usually have my work laptop with me as well. I carry too much stuff. Anyway I'm still hopeful the PlayBook gets an update to improve the browser. Then I'd be good with it for at least a couple more years.

Try the Nexus 7. I looked at a lot and tested quite a few before I bought the Nexus. The clean android experience is the way to go.

I was thinking of the Surface or Kindle Fire (although technically Android) which might not have some of the content the OP is after. I didn't even think about the Nook or other Windows based tabs.
