Default Thinking of buying a BB unlocked but unsure of music quality.

I know, I know, BB isn't really a device used for media but I'm getting seriously compelled into getting one especially since I have a PlayBook. The only problem I have is that I like to listen to music a lot and last BB I owned didn't have that great of a music quality to it. Any suggestions? Or should I just go Windows Phone? I don't plan on going Android since I got bored of it after having my Galaxy Nexus.

music quality is largely dependant on the format/compression of the audio files and the output device you are using (headphones, earbuds, speakers). i get great sound out of my 9900 because i use 320kbps MP3s almost exclusively (except for the mixtape music i listen to) and the Sony earbuds and DJ headphones i use are capable of a nice frequency response and sensitivity. BBs even go a bit beyond the call and include an EQ for a more tailored sound. give it chance, i dont think you will be disappointed.

Also a BB phone and playbook are a match made in heaven. the pair compliment each other quite well because of Bridge features that are well documented in this forum.

BB supports FLAC, the rest is up to headphones.

What 416to604 said. High bitrate MP3 files and good sound reproducing hardware on a 9900 is a fine option. The built in speakers are OK but other accessories work even better. My phone often feeds a high end stereo system. Completely acceptable for hours of listening. Recommended for sound playback in my world.

If you purchase songs from the blackberry music store on your bb or playbook, it is quite a high quality file. Many standard length songs run into 10Mb territory.

Even my 9700 has decent sound quality as long as I use decent earbuds or headphones.

Ah okay that's all I wanted to know. I don't have a problem with headphones since I use Audio Technica M50's. Well I guess I'm giving BB a try. Anyone know where I can get it 9900 unlocked? I have looked but I would rather go to a recommended site.
