I need some help. I just got my first blackberry about a week ago. For the most part I'm happy with all of the features except text messaging. My boyfriend travels for work so he and I do a lot of texting back and forth. The problem is we both have Verizon and I am used to being able to send him a text with 7 pages of just 160 characters instead of the standard 160 that the blackberry allows me.

Is there anything that I can download that would allow me to use more characters if I'm going from Verizon to Verizon? I can receive texts that are larger than 160 characters with no problem but the blackberry character count prohibits me from going over the 160 mark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks!

It's not a blackberry limitation, that's the limitation on SMS. If he has a Blackberry as well, why not send him a PIN message? If not, MMS would allow a longer message

Send an MMS, Email, BBM or PIN message instead.

i believe MMS has a 1000 character limit.

Thanks. What is a PIN though? I see I can add this info for contacts. He unfortunately does not have a blackberry.

I've used the MMS option before but if I'm replying to a text I get stuck with the 160 limit.

PIN is a unique number assigned to each Blackberry device.

Since you BF doesn't have a BB MMs or Email would be the best option.

BBM is Blackberry Messenger. It's like instant messege BB to BB.

Also no help for your situation if he doesn't have a BB.

Tell him to get a Blackberry!

On my old phone it would let me type over the 160 limit and when I sent it would automaticly be devided and sent out in however many seperate txt of 160 it took.

Blackberry won't let you type over and it is kind of annoying.

If a dumb phone can do it why not Blackberry?

Its not annoying enough for me to even consider a different phone.

When I hit the limit I save as a draft and start another, then send them all when I'm done.

...And let's not forget one more feature about BBM - it doesn't count against your regular SMS allowance. Always looking for a way to save a buck or two.

Ditto. My father-in-law is the only person I know with a BlackBerry and even though he's cool, not someone I'd BBM.

Mine will type more then 160 and splits it into different messages upon sending. It types just like your old phone did. Maybe it is a setting in options or something I don't remember changing anything to make it do that though.
