How do you tell if your phone is unlocked without using another sim card?

Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > Sim Card

Type MEPD (you will not see what you type)
If all lines say "disabled", then its unlocked. Like below:

Everything but network says disabled but network says active. What does that mean?

I should have been more clear

If Network reads DISABLED then the phone is unlocked. Because yours is showing Network as being ACTIVE the phone is still locked to the issuing carrier.

    Try this if you haven't:

    1) Ensure a SIM Card is inserted
    2) Go to ‘Manage Connections’
    3) Click on ‘Turn All Connections Off’
    4) Go to ‘Options’
    5) Click on ‘Device’
    6) Click on ‘Advanced System Settings’
    7) Click on ‘SIM Card’
    8) Type ‘MEP2′ (you will be prompted to enter MEP code)
    9) Enter the MEP2 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)

*If you also have a MEP4 code, type ‘MEP4′ (you will be prompted to enter MEP code)
Enter the MEP4 code (CONFIRM you get "Code Accepted" message)
    Reboot device
Go to ‘Manage Connections’ and restore connection.

I'm not sure, I put a straight talk sim in and it said it was incompatible or something

I'm having the same issue. I have the unlock code, but my SIM still shows as being disabled and network is inactive.

Whenever I go to "Sim Card" and type 'MEP2', nothing happens.

This is for a 9930, if it makes a difference.

You guys most likely need the MEP4 code too. It's an extra "lock" some networks have put on their branded phones. Here is some more information.

On the 9930, if it reads "Inactive" next to "Network", then it is unlocked. Thus nothing will happen when you type MEP2.

MissV, what exactly are you trying to do?

Oh. I just unlocked it, but wasn't sure if it was unlocked as I did not see anything different than I would normally see. Can't make calls or does it detect my network, so I thought something was wrong.
