I've been curious about the different ways in which BlackBerry accesses data services. After downloading the (excellent) BeWeather app, I see four choices for data transport:
    • Direct TCP/IP
    • BIS-B
    • WiFi
    • BES

I'm really looking for really fine-grained technical information on the way these services work, if this data is publicly-available. Pure curiosity.

I ask because a recent (BIS?) outage at Bell Mobility's data centre caused some data services to fail even over wifi because, as I understand, even wifi data is routed through my carrier's BlackBerry servers (see host routing table).

Thanks thorsten_s, that seems to be what I'm looking for!

But good grief, the audio quality of the narration is awful. I might just have to mute it and watch the slides.
