I am looking for advice or perhaps an idiots guide so that I can sync my BlackBerry 9900 with google contacts & calendar.

I use Gmail on my 9900 for email and calendar and it works very sweetly. It isn't difficult to set up, pretty much the same as any other email account in Set Up. Make sure you tick calendar and contacts in the synchronisation options. Does that help?
