    so I now have a symbol in the upper right of my BB screen. It's black and has an "up" arrow and looks like it says the letters "NUM" above the arrow. What is this from?

    Try pressing the CAPs button on your keyboard.

    Edit: Excuse me, SHIFT button.

    You pressed the Alt then shift key somehow.
    Just press the shift key again and it should go away.
