Stand alone GPS
Are there map sets out there for BB's or Storms specificly, that work with out network access?
I ask because I can get 4-9 sats quite regularly way out in the sticks, but don't have access to the network to load the maps. I don't really care about traffic, gas stations, or other perks when there is no network access, however I do want to be able to set way points, plot trails, and see co-ordinates.
It would be great if the storm could function as a stand alone gps replacement, but as it is right now it is not.

Gota have data access to pull the map data down.

That's why I want a downloadable map set, much like a standard GPS. It preferabley, would be downloaded onto the storm though a computer since it likely is/be fairly large in size. This would allow basic GPS functions for whatever your map set you chose to use.

Yeah, I know what you meant. Ever visit the GPS forum? There's some info in there for such a program... may or may not have support for Storm yet. Venture and see.

Thanks. New to community,I'll check that out.

If you find out the answer (yes or no), please come back and let us know.
I did a search of the GPS forum, as Civic suggested, but had no luck in finding anything useful. Found one program (TrekBuddy) that claims to have the ability but, the only maps available seem to be user-generated maps...and they only seem to cover areas like Croatia and the Ukraine. Not so useful to us in the civilized world.
Civic, do you happen to remember the name of the application to which you referred (and if so, please tell us)?

The only two apps I've ever heard of that let you preload maps on a media card are Trekbuddy and Mobile GMaps (not to be confused with Google Maps). You can find references to both in the GPS & Mapping Forum. Trekbuddy is more commonly cited. I suspect that's the one JR remembered.
