Prem stepping down... Check what his holdings are. He has a big stake in Dell. He specifically stated a conflict in interest... Just being a share holder doesn't invoke a conflict... look at the previous CEOs... Look at all current management being share holders...
Its not a sale, but a very large deal... possibly licensing the OS.

    How is it obvious?

Dell is about to go private...
This isn't about a sale. Prem stated he wouldn't sell. If he's holding.. either someone buys with him... or there is a very large deal in the works with a company he holds.

    Good joke

Like anyone would be idiotic enough to sell to dell

It's quite obvious to me that this is the perfect marketing stunt which gets a lot of traction and news in their target market: Business Customers.

There is a deal on the way already and talks must have been going on.

Just look at CB news overflowing the days after the stock stopped trading for a moment.

    All this is great marketing!

In the end they come out with the Z30, a new partnership and will look like phoenix just ascending from its ashes.

This is a nice story. This is what people like.

It takes a long time to put all the pieces in the right places and to stage a great comeback.
The EEC goldmine, the DOD deal, qnx in cars with the new partnership and finally proper BES deployment.

The 10.2 release is all they have been waiting for to go viral and not have the stigma of a half baked OS.

Beeing on the lookout for 2 years and NOT finding a partner just shows the strategic marketing importance.

In the US, most believe that BlackBerry is dead. All they can do is offer a rebirth.

If this was Frank Boulben's idea, one can be proud.

But please don't tell the masses that it is all staged. It ruins the story

Buying a company to take it private creates a conflict of interest for whoever is in any management position in a company because whoever buys the company wants to pay the lowest price in contrast to a shareholder who wants to sell at the highest price. That's why Michael Dell trying to take his company private is a problem because he's trying to convince shareholders to sell the company at a lower price.
