After seeing the new commercial for the PRIV the only reaction people would get is "BlackBerry? Who still uses a BlackBerry?". BlackBerry should actually advertise around this reaction. Here's a scenario of how it'll play out:

OK, so we are in a world where iOS and Andriod are the two dominant mobile devices people use. Where every phone shares the same plain slab, BlackBerry stands out as the only device with something different. Imagine a world of people just on their phones in an all white scenery mindlessly not caring what information they put out there and they're all just looking at their slabs using the virtual keyboards texting and whatever else they do; all of a sudden you see this person dressed in all black just pull out his PRIV (or Passport) and use the PKB on/ in his phone, not just by tapping on the buttons, but also by flicking and scrolling with the inbuilt trackpad. All of a sudden all eyes are on him and you start to hear someone say "Wow, is that a BlackBerry?" as he's walking away smiling with the same people looking on trying to get a glimpse of his PKB action. And then the screen fades to black and BlackBerry shows up on the screen showing the devices now available to buy.

What do you think? Would this have worked or helped with sells?

Won't work. The problem is perception... physical keyboard has a strong perception in most people as obsolete and that's the image they have to shake off if they want to continue offering physical keyboards.

Honestly I don't think it's realistically possible to do so.

Although I may agree I have to add these keyboards have something they don't share with previous keyboard devices, the inbuilt scroll/ trackpad.

They have been advertising for the past few years. F1 (contact expired) , NHL 15 video game, super bowl commercial way back when, radio commercials back few years ago all for BB10. It's transition time for BlackBerry into android. Guaranteed that the new focus on Android, we and the public, will see new marketing especially with new products coming down the assembly line.

Different does not automatically mean desirable. Few people are "clamoring for something different" despite the perception of a few folks here, many of whom are contrarian in nature to begin with.

    Marketing always helps..

But so does having a good product at a great price. Unfortunately BB10 devcies don't meet the needs of most consumers, and BlackBerry's Android entry is an overpriced - especially if you are looking at the Verizon ($720) or even the AT&T websites.

What BlackBerry needs is marketing with a competitive product.... which Chen knows they can't do, thus the move back to enterprise and an end-to-end solution.

They could help mitigate the Priv price by allowing rebates to be used by people who have to purchase through the carrier just like most other companies

Problem is can BlackBerry afford a rebate program? It's not like the hardware bottom line has a bunch of "Black Ink" on it.
